New to TL's, need help on system

hey guys, ive read through the forums some and cant really get a guage om this stock system, i know it's apprently high quality but i bought my tl used with about 111k miles for maybe 11k wasnt to bad of a price i though, as ive figured out now a year later lots of stock problems but thats not the point, its an 04 tl w/o navi, i wanted to see what is involved in upgrading the radio, and all speakers including subs and what is good to put in, right now im currently replacing all the interior lights with led's in a blue and white combo so i wont be touching the system for a couple months, nut any help is appreciated, im hoping i can get the help here as i have had help in mitsu forums for my previous car, thanks guys

Hi, welcome to Acurazine,

This thread wil probably get moved to the 3G area. Lots of help there!

I had an '08 and changed out th eradio (headunit) along with all the speakers. It requires a good bit of work but can be done. A double DIN head unit fits in there but there is not dash kit for these cars.

In a non-navi, the only thing that you lose when upgrading the radio to an aftermarket unit is the Hands Free - not a huge loss since you can get HFL in most decent aftermarket units anymore.

@eggy hm i dont have a budget right now, didnt think about it, i know i want some decent speakers and good bass, since i listen to everything from rock, to hip hop/rap all depends on the mood, when i had my mitsu i did 2 12" kickers a pioneer head unit and infinity door speakers with the tweeters that came with them, wasnt the greatest but it did alright, i guess if i had to say a budget i would say 1g tops for speakers head unit etc, or front speakers and rear deck speakers idk

@jda yeh i knew i'd lose the hands free which isnt a big deal but it is nice ha ha, but is it possible to do a system in this car with the stock radio, i've always upped the radio in every car i've owned so im not sure with the tl

@stew thanks man if it gets moved it gets moved i appreciate the welcome, just trying to learn like everyone else, doing these led conversions are a bitch right now ha ha

That's not to bad right around what is like to spend I can always upgrade the unit later, is it more feasible though to upgrade the head unit first our last? Also if you know, how will all that sound

The radio is not as sad as the speakers. I would start with the speakers first.

You need to decide:
1). If you will do the work, or pay to have it done
2). Total budget including hardware, wiring, etc.

The HU isn't bad. Alot of guys are running processing just ofter the HU. I am just running a line diver then to the amps. The question is does the current HU do every thing you want it to do? if it does then I would just leave it (looks better IMO than Aftermarket) just my .02

I am running the factory HU, mainly cause there is no easy way to go aftermarket with it still looking good, and the HU is just fine. especially if you get a processor to do most the work, you are then just using the HU for the source.

How would a Stock HU w/ Processor compare with a good aftermarket HU w/ the same Processor?

Would SQ be the same?
