does the plug from a 08 HFL comply with an 04 TL. i know some1 who has a junk yard that can hook me up with one but i am not sure if it will work with my car.

has any done this B4 or should i stick to an 06 HFL unit?

Don't replace it- repair it: it's a lot cheaper to do so if this works (usually a main board capacitor that goes bad- is replaceable for $2 if you have knowhow with a soldering iron):

i know how to use a soldering iron and i had already looked at that link but i am afraid that the problem is elsewhere than that capacitor (statistically speaking). i can replace that capacitor but i do not have the ESR meter or any1 who has one so that i can diagnose the specific problem on the board.

im not giving up on that idea just yet tho. but i figured that having an updated board would be the best idea. from the pics iv seen in that link the 06 has been updated from the 04. so i am assuming the 07 and 08 have even newer hardware. If i go that route and still have no success. then i will try replacing the capacitor.

another note is that i have navigation and those with navi also have another component that goes along with the HFL. it is the relay box. I am not sure what the relay box does or how it works and seems to be hard to find any info on it.

i just hope that that is not the problem cuz its a freakin bitch to get to!

Did you ever get your HFL fixed? Mine quit working today, took it apart and visually inspected the capacitor. Looks OK, not bulging or anything suspect. I reassembled and the HFL worked for about 20 seconds. Not sure what that is all about.

I'm wondering if it is that relay (Delay Box) that is behind the nav unit. I once had bad relay connections in a box that runs the daytime running lights on my Canadian TL. A quick hit with the soldering iron fixed that.

Caps dont have to be bulging to be bad.

I've replaced a "normal" looking cap in a LCD computer display that was causing the issue. Works fine now.

Replaced both caps today. Unfortunately, same result. I can intermittently get the HFL to come on but it will not pair. And usually does not even come on.

Does anyone know what modules will work in an 05 MDX? Will the newer ones work?
