Need Non navi to Navi conversion help!!

I thought i had all the parts for my nav conversion but now that i recieved my wire harness from Martin on eBay and I actually started looking at all the parts, when i ordered my GPS antenna all i recieved was #4 in the image below which is the antenna assembly.

However this wire attached to the GPS antenna is not long enough to reach the trunk. Is there another additional wire that this GPS unit plugs into that leads to the trunk or is it already there under the rear deck of the non navi TLs? I wanted to start doing my conversion today but i dont want to take everything apart and then not have the GPS antenna hooked up. Help ASAP would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!!

are you sure you ordered this new through an acura parts store? or did martin sell you this? the cable coming from the gps antenna should be plenty long enough. there are no other or additional wires coming from it. how long is the cable?

That was all i recieved. This came with the DVD ROM Unit that i bought used from a person on ebay. I noticed the antenna that Martin was supplying was a really long cable with the GPS antenna.

Yah, when I purchased my antenna it was a long cord.. does the plug fit in the back of the dvd rom? If so, just do what jptl04 said and extend the wires.. should only be 2-3 wires to extend.. glad you are on your way to installing the navi in your car!!

the plug fits but i just realized that the antenna is not from the TL because the part number is 39835-sec-a110-m1, im guessing its a TSX or Accord antenna. Will this antenna still work with the TL navigation or do I have to get a new antenna? If it will work, i can extend it myself, im pretty good with soldering, i guess when i hook it up tommorow ill see if it works or not but can anyone tell me off hand if it will work or not? THanks again for your help guys, i was waiting for both bzyrice and jptl04 to help me out with this since you guys inspired me to do this on my car.

No problem. I dont know 100% if it will work since I have not installed that antenna before. I do not see why not tho since the TSX and TL seem to use the same DVD ROM. Let us know if it works. When you install the GPS antenna and the NAVI, the first time you start it up it might not be able to find a signal. This is what happened to me and I thought something wasnt working even though everything was green in the diagnostic screen. I realized it was because my car was in the garage. After putting everything back together and moved my car into my driveway, the GPS was able to get a signal.

yeah i just tried everything and it cant seem to find a signal. BTW the install was really time consuming and a pain but so worth it in the end. I tried plugging the antenna and left the trunk open to get a signal but it did not work so right now i am trying to extend the gps wire and then put it on the trunk just to see if i can get a signal, if not ill have to purchase the antenna from martin.

How do i get to the diagnostics screen for the navi?

oh and also make sure your car is on and you let the gps get signal for about 10-20 minutes.. mine took almost 15 minutes to find the signal!

ok now i dont understand how the navigation is working if it doesnt recognize the antenna in the diagnostics screen. Then again when im driving around my area it seems to work then i went for a long drive on the highway and it couldnt figure out where i was then all of a sudden told me i was in a different place all together. any of you guys can help me out with this. i guess i really do have to buy that antenna but how is it that its still working and my position is moving while i am driving, even though the antenna isnt?

Yah the car works with gps and your speed. Sounds like your antenna works sometimes because how would your car know exactly where you are in the first place? Is you antenna mounted yet? Or is it just sitting in your trunk?

its mounted on the rear deck where its supposed to be since i extended the wire. i guess it does work sometimes but comes on and off. i went out again tonight and it seemed to be working fine then all of a sudden i was driving all over the map on no road according to the navi and it wouldnt change directions as i turned.

When this happens check your diagnosis screen. Maybe your wiring isnt 100%? Double check your wiring.. I dont know why it would do that!

yeah maybe my wiring isnt correct. Im waiting for my antenna from martin and when i test that ill see if there are any more issues before i check the wiring. i believe its the GPS antenna though that causing the problem. when i go to the diag screen for the navi the antenna is red so it might be that.

thanks guys...ive been working all day trying to figure out the navi hack for version 3.6 but the only thing that is working is the wallpaper. I dont know how some people were able to get version 3.6 to work with the trip computer and a/c controls, maybe i should just look for a 3.7 disc instead somewhere. =\
