Need help hooking up to a JL Clean Sweep

Hi All,

This is for a 2005 TL. I know the popular consensus here is that I don't need it, but I've already bought it and installed the volume control, so I'm kinda stuck with it! I bought it a few years ago when I thought that was the best route to go, plus I am using it for the aux audio input to add an MP3 player to the car.

I have installed all new speakers and run all the wires, including an 8-wire bundle from the trunk to the passenger kick panel. I have searched here all morning and can not find the preferred method of splicing into the amplified side of the factory amp. I found this harness in one thread, but it looks like this is just for 2007-2008. I searched on the PAC Audio site and don't see a similar harness for 05's.

I don't mind cutting the wires if I have to, but would prefer to use a harness if one exists. My primary concerns are keeping the Bluetooth audio working as well as the navigation sound for the center channel.

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks,

Alan

Honestly, sell it, buy a new panel where your knob is and call it a day.

If you HAVE to use it, it will be easier to go on the preamp side. If you do this, and want to keep the f/r/c/s configuration you will need a second cleansweep. One for the 4 speakers, and one (half of one) for the sub and center. All of the audio for nav and bt is through the h/u, not the amp. You could also go preamp for the 4 speakers and not run the sub and center through a cleansweep. However, doing this your volume control will not affect the center and sub. Also, your aux won't play through the center and sub. And you will have different input levels to the new amp so that will need to be considered.

Ok, whew, if you must go post amp, you will also need 2 cl-ssis (in addition to the second cleansweep) to sum the x-over'd signal back to full range for the cleansweep to do its job.

The pre amp signal is full range and pretty stinking flat for the 4 speakers. The sub is LPd ~100Hz and the center is HPd (I forget where exactly) both of those are pretty flat too. Really, the only drawback to using the stock preamp signal is it is very low level. A better option than the cleansweep (which does work great as a line driver too) is to get something like an Audio Control Matrix and an aux in adapter. It is a 6 ch line driver that you could use instead of 2 cleansweeps which will be doing nothing more really than acting as a line driver and aux in. It will also be cheaper than 1 cleansweep, let alone 2.

Seriously man, there are times when it is just best to punt. This is that time. To do it right with the cleansweep you have a much longer and more complex road. Back out of it before it gets silly.

Thanks, DJQ, for the reply!

I think I am going to concede defeat on this one and take it to a shop. I worked on the car for a few hours today and this is WAY over my head. I've only owned (and upgraded the systems in) four cars in my life, the others being a '83 Toyota Supra, a '89 Honda Accord and a '99 Chevy Blazer ZR2. With the TL, this is a whole different ballgame than those cars. The more I worked on it, the more it felt like they just went out of their way to make sure that no one messed with the stereo in the car!

It's also funny that now that I'm in my mid 30's it took me three years to get around to doing the stereo. (I bought the car used in 2009). But in the plus side, I have 115,000 miles on the car and didn't think twice about making this investment so I guess I plan on keeping it for a while!
