This is worth a try:
1. Insert the navigation DVD back into the DVD-ROM in your car.
2. Start the car normally (or put the key in and turn it so NAV turns on), and at the main navigation screen hold Map/Guide, Menu, and Cancel for 5 seconds.
3. Hit the "Version" button on the touch screen.
4. Hit the "Load Disc" button on the Version screen and wait until the disk loads.
If you're getting errors, its time to take it to the dealers to have it looked at. Good luck!

I doubt that they will replace anything if the damage is due to a rear end collision.
I say follow the steps datmrman outlines above and if that fails, try your friend's nav disc to be sure that the drive is the issue. I wish you well...and if all else fails, you can always install your own car PC and use it for nav!

At any rate, good luck with solving your issue.

Good point, assuming the car was bought at a reputable dealer it should be in working condition...slaw, what are the details? did you buy from a reputable dealer? was the damage before or after you took possession of the car?

Any reason you'd want an update?
Judging from saw's profile, the last time he/she logged on was to post that question. I am assuming problem solved otherwise they would have been back.
