Like other members, I've had problems with my 04 tls navigation system. I disconnected the battery to do a audio system install and keep getting the "please check your disc" error afterwards. I have three questions regarding this problem

1. What contents of the navi does the dvd disc control?
I've started the car without the dvd disc and only get the "please check your disc" message.
I've started the car with the dvd disc and it say now downloading for 4 seconds then give the check disc error.

2. Does the fact that it tries to download with the navi disc installed mean the dvd rom is working and it's a bad disc?

3. Has any members had this problem fixed by using a more updated disc?

It's possible that your problem is merely a dirty disc. Get a quality CD cleaning kit and clean the CD and retry. The next best thing would be a faulty disc unit. You can remove it and ship it to Alpine to be fixed for about $150. If the problem lies in the navi unit itself, then it's going to be some major coin.

There is a troubleshooting thread somewhere in the Garage for this issue. Also, do a search for "Alpine" and you should pull up a couple of threads with the address and shipping info for Alpine.

I went to the stealership and they ran a diagnostics on my navi system (115.00) and said my dvd drive is faulty (600.00) I'll ship the unit to alpine next week and let you guys know the results...
