Navigation problems, need help!

so my navigation has been acting really weird lately and won't put me in the right spot on the map (about a mile off), and is facing the wrong way. i've searched and searched but haven't found the same problem addressed.

i've reloaded my disc, i've disconnected the battery, and no solutions. i've even gone into the diagnostic menu and verified my car gps coordinates match my phone. the coordinates are correct but the map doesn't show that same position. all items are green on the diagnostic menu.

can someone tell me what values they have for a navi-based car (preferably Type S) for the items below??

diagnostic screen (map, menu, cancel for 5 sec) --> yaw rate

sensor 2.512V
offset 2.513V
CCW factor 0.7%
CW factor -0.2%

the manual states that the default should be 2.526 for the offset and the sensor should be within .1. can someone tell me their values while the car is parked? i want to see how mine compares

this has been frustrating me for the last 4 days and my navi is useless right now!

I have an 08 TL Type S and just checked mine for you. Results are as follows:

Sensor: 2.571V
Offset: 2.572V
CCW Factor: 0.9%
CW Factor: -0.1%

Not sure what it all means but hopefully it helps?

NP - I know there is a way to adjust your car position. I doubt that's it, but you might want to try it?

While searching here on AZ, I found this thread - https://acurazine.com/forums/audio-b...cy-off-756402/

It doesn't list a solution, but you might try and PM the first poster to see if he ever came up with a solution. His symptoms sound like what you have described.

thanks for the link, i sent him a message but he hasn't been in here in a while.

i know the position you're talking about, i've rotated it a bunch but it seems to just be relative to the way the arrow points on the map.

in that thread you linked, there's talk about tint. last week i got my front windshield tinted really light but i did a bunch of research before and there wasn't any talk about it messing up gps stuff (tint brand is suntek). plus, the gps antenna is in the rear shelf if i remember correctly and my gps puts out the right coordinates (in the diagnostics window), it's just not showing up correct on the map.

cleared the memory through diagnostics hoping that it would hard reset the system but no luck. my gps icon doesn't move in any direction, it just turns in its spot as my car is moving.

does anyone know how to do a hard reset like a dealer would do?

You can also try and reach out to acrdr and texashonda who are both members here and I know acrdr (Paul) is a Honda Tech in NJ. I believe texashonda might have been a tech in the past.

thanks! i've messaged both of them and i'll see if they can provide any insight or let me know if a dealer can even help me.

can you check one more thing for me? can you drive and as you're driving (or before you begin moving for safety), go into your diagnostics screen again, go to yaw rate, and then click tuning. it brings up a screen with the navi arrow. as you drive there should be stuff happening on the screen.

the service manual says there should be a trail of white dots and they should be level as you drive down a straight road. my screen just shows one white dot and my arrow goes in circles similar to what it does on my map screen.

can you let me know what your screen does when you are driving down a straight road and in the tuning screen? thanks in advance if you can!

It won't be tonight but I can do that for you. Are you saying the dots are going to appear on the diagnostics screen??

here's a summary of the text from the manual:

"drive the vehicle on a straight road. enter the diagnostic mode, select "yaw rate", and touch the "tuning" button. While driving down a straight road, the white "dots" should trace a straight line across the screen. However, if you are driving on a straight road and you notice the dots constantly dropping down or heading up as your drive, the yaw sensor is defective."

my tuning screen doesn't show a line of white dots. just the single white dot and my icon arrow travels in circles. i just want to see what your screen looks like as you drive in the tuning screen.

where you able to get a chance to try out the tuning screen? just curious if you have a line of dots or just a single dot when driving straight.

Sorry for the delayed response. I took my car out a couple of times and simply forgot to do this for you. So I did finally remember and what I saw was a trail of white dots behind the icon. As I made turns, so did the icon and the dots followed. If you can imagine bread crumbs, that's the best way I can describe it. Hope this helps.

Yea that helps because mine does not do that. That was where I thought my problem was and this confirms it. After multiple calls to alpine yesterday basically they said i have to take it to the dealer but I'll probably just tell them what's wrong and ask them what I need to do instead of having them charge me for it.

Thanks again!

I just had my DVD unit serviced at Alpine for Disc errors. One thing about the '04/5/6 Nav system is it's propensity for errors that take you blocks out of the way, around in circles, and making you go a mile or 2 out of the way when you only needed to go 1 block, regardless of your settings to Direct Route, Maximize/Minimize Highways, etc. Its just the way the damn routing algorithms (unfortunately) were written.

And I have the 2112 disk to boot! I'd upgrade to the 2114 disk if they fixed that problem, but it's only for the maps and bizniz places.

My navigation started having the same problems 3 weeks ago. I first noticed there was something wrong when I tried pressing the "audio" button and it was lagging severely. Now I'll either be on the wrong street going the wrong way, or the navigation will constantly keep restarting never making it to the point where the ok button even shows up on the legal screen.

an update:
after going through lots of diagnostic checks using the service manual, there is still no glaring reason for what's going on. so i decided to bite the bullet and take it into the dealer and pay the 135 fee to know what's really wrong with my navi. i get to the dealer and i explain all that i've done and they say "there's nothing more we could do and we can't troubleshoot the hardware. keep your 135 and go to a local guy that specializes in this stuff"

so i talk to the local guy who does oem repairs and he says that even if they diagnose the problem, it will most likely lead to a repair similar to what alpine does. he said he is as much or more to diagnose and repair the navi dvd system, so he told me to just send it in for the overhaul and not waste money on any diagnosing.

long story short, i appreciate the local shop and dealer's honesty, but i'm still no closer to what the problem is, so i'm going to just send it into alpine for a complete overhaul for the 358. i briefly looked at tablet installs but there are still many complications from those installs (such as rear camera not working or coming on automatically for reverse) and it still won't look completely flush like the current screen.

i'll update once i get my unit back from alpine that hopefully fixes my problem. i really wanted to upgrade my 7 year old graphics with a tablet but there are still many bugs with that system and i don't want to go through all that work

Were you given an approximate turn around time for the overhaul? Just curious when you might get your unit back.

i was given 1-2 weeks turn-around, but i haven't sent it in yet because i just finished an audio install. now i'm glad i did because i can't set my amp gains without a cd playing test tones, and my cd player doesn't work.

so i've been quoted 275 to replace the cd player JUST to set my gain, so now i'm going to start searching harder for something to replace navi and audio all at once because i don't want to drop $600 on 7 year old components. so dumb
