Navigation Nightmare from Hell....

For reference this is my second "Honda" vehicle w/ navigation and it's the first time I've ever encountered such a nightmare....not all necessarily the navi's fault either...

This past Friday (8/25) my sister-in-law and I went to the Eagles/Steelers game in Philly. Even though I can drive myself home blindfolded from the Schuylkill to the Turnpike and right on home.... I usually plug "Home" into my navi just to feel safe. Well....

Unfortunately, after being stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic on the Schuylkill for an hour at 11pm at night...we finally creeped our way up far enough to where the police were redirecting traffic onto another route (476). Of course, the navi instantly starts re-routing and each time re-routes me back to the Schuylkill where they're redirecting traffic. Thankfully (although not best practice), I had a slight buzz and didn't think much of it - all I wanted was to get the hell home. So, after a few times of showing up at the same spot (like in Groundhog Day), we decided to not listen to the navi and just drive. Well, my reliable navi re-routed me once again but on the worst possible route. For what should have taken me at the most an hour and a half to get home....it took me four and a half hours.

My point- I thought that when you have it programed for "direct route" that even if you would get off the "beaten path" that it would still re-direct you to the closest direct route; rather than the scenic. AGH!

Love my navi - but after Friday night.............(I wanted to kick her/his ass!) LOL. Better luck to me next time, I guess?

lol so when i first got my car, i was volunteered to drive to the movies to watch pirates of the caribbean 2. i happily agreed and as we were leaving the parking garage...i had to spiral up the garage to get out. in any case, the nav system got hella confused and the entire ride home...it kept telling me to take the next left into the lake and make a u turn on a oneway bridge if possible...i thought it was hella funny at first...but it got sooo annoying...btw, i didn't know how to cancel route at the time...

That's why there's a [Detour] option.

Hmmmm....wasn't aware of the detour option. I'll have to look into that.....
Because that was the longest freaking detour of my life! LOL.

But see - this is why our navi systems should have the Realtime Traffic option; I could have REALLY used it............

There is also an option to maximize and minimize freeways as well as toll roads, so that may sometimes help when you run into a detour.
