Navigation Help!!

Hope someone can help me. I have a 2004 tsx w/ navi and the dvd drive burnt out. the dealer is charging me 4000 just for the part. so i gotta do this myself.

i can find a 2004 tsx dvd drive on ebay, and i also found a 2006 tsx dvd drive on ebay. the 2006 has updated menus, xm capable, etc. can i just hot swap the 2006 drive into the 2004 slot and have 100% functionality? the ebay seller claims that the 2006 dvd drive he is selling is 100% compatible with my 2004. however i know the 2004 doesnt have the bluetooth hands free, for example. will this work guys? hope someone can give me some info cause i currently have no access to my maps, A/C, trip computer, radio, etc. my screen is completely useless so i am trying to fix this ASAP. thanks for any info.

$4000 for a DVD drive? I'd write Acura Customer Service a nasty letter and give them a piece of my mind. I can see maybe $400 for a part that's only worth $100 tops, but $4000 is just obscene. Hell....the Navi itself didn't cost that much when you purchased the car.....that's insane.

yeah i've already been in contact with client services and they are absolutely no help. i'm gonna elevate this up as high as i can. they've helped me before when i had transmission troubles and they were very good about it. but the dealership is ZERO help, they wont even explain to me what they think is wrong. just telling me the unit is broken. and client services absolutely refuses to give me a discount on the part. i asked them how the total system is only 2k and why they are charging 4000 for 1 small component of that system. insanity! so i am trying to fix this myself and i need to know what my options are for replacing the dvd drive. it should just be hot swappable. but i dont know for sure and the dealership wont even tell me that much info. if i buy a part online they wont even tell me if i can use it. they repeat the same thing over and over "you can only buy genuine acura parts for the 2004 tsx from acura."

i need to hear experience from acura navi owners who have experimented with other year or other model acura dvd drives. what a mess.

because while all this is happening, i have ZERO control over my A/C, radio, maps, calander, etc. obviously i can use the auto a/c button. but i am out on the road traveling for work and i need a fully working car. right now the screen just continually displays and error message the entire time. cant even turn the screen off.

$4000 sounds insane.

Try the obvious: Ebay, varios web sites and junk yards. It's actually fairly common to see nav parts on Ebay. Don't ask how the seller came upon them

Junk yards may not be much help either, as they normally bas their prices on a percentage of the cost for a new part.

I'm not very familiar with the TSX, having only driven one once (non-Nav). Have you considered an aftermarket Nav unit? That wouldn't control the HVAC (there are no redundant controls?! Sounds crazy) but would give you other functionality.

Good luck.

yes i already have multiple ebay auctions that are ready to sell me a new part, for much less than 4000 dollars. my question is can i buy the 2006 unit and put it into the 2004 car? my dealer just indicated that it should work fine.

RogerPodacter, are you aware this is the 3G TL Audio/Electronic section?

You will get more help in the TSX's Audio/Electronic section, which I believe is here: https://acurazine.com/forums/ramblings-12/
