Navigation error -- stuck on disclaimer screen (2004 TL)

I have a 2004 TL and the navigation system has been getting stuck on the initial disclaimer screen. I believe I'm using Ver. 3.7, from 2007, and it's been working fine ever since I bought the disc, until a couple of weeks ago. The OK button never shows up and the screen goes black. The navigation-related menu pages in Setup are disabled when this happens. The sound system and Bluetooth work fine.

This doesn't happen every time, but it's becoming more and more frequent. I cleaned the disk and used a DVD drive cleaner (with the tiny brushes built into the disc), but it's still happening. Any idea what the problem may be?

Try re-downloading the software into the unit by:

2. Go to your car.
3. Turn your car's ignition to ACC
4. Open the trunk and pop out the NAVI disk (if it's in there)
5. Insert navi disk.
6. Go back to the driver seat and wait for the disclaimer to pop up, now press and hold "GUIDE" "MENU" and "CANCEL" for approx 5 seconds to bring up the diagnostic menu.
7. Wait another 5 seconds to let it load up completely. Press "version" button on the screen
8. Press "LOAD DISC" to load your custom bin into the navigation.
9. Wait until it's completely done and you are done!

Thanks for the info. The first time I did it it just said, "Please check your disc". So I ejected and reinserted it. It worked a couple of tries later and was able to load the software. I'll post another update after a few days.

I had the same "check disk" error 2 weeks ago. I took the dvd to my computer and could read it; so I knew the dvd was OK. I sent the dvd unit to Alpine + $170. I just got it back today and my navigation software is loaded OK. Now I have to check with the dealer for the code (as I just got this car and I don't know the code). Anyone know how much it will cost me? or can a car repair station get the code free from the Acura dealer ?(I don't mean to hijack this thread)

call up the dealer with your VIN number and they should be able to give it to you over the phone. But before you do that, check on the sides of your glovebox and under the fuse box covers and see if the dealer affixed the sticker with the codes there. Also you can try logging into acura ownerlink and see if the codes are online.

Thanks Gator.

The code next to glove box I tried yesterday didn't work.
Per your wise advice I just checked the fuse box cover, and sure enough the code there works.
Now I have to find a good open space, and disconnect the battery again - per the screen instruction; as I failed to get it initialized properly with all the building here.

Again, thank you.
All I need now is an update to v3.90 $145

Hope that link printed ok

Back to the original topic........
I bought an upgrade DVD hoping that loading the new software would help, but it didn't. The problem (stuck on disclaimer screen) continued intermittently, and now it seems stuck permanently, regardless of which DVD is in the drive. I actually had a hard time loading the software from the new DVD and the screen would just say "Please check your disc". Eventually I just kept driving around with it that way and after stopping/starting the car a few times the software finally loaded. But still no navigation. So is the problem the DVD drive itself? If so, how much does it cost to repair/replace?

I'd like to know this too! I have a dvd drive that makes a huge clicking noise when you try to eject the disc and won't take the disc back anymore. I know my issue is the dvd reader drive itself. Any info on how to send it to Alpine?

what version is the new disk? It has to be 3.xx if your car is a 2004-2006 and 4.xx if 2007-2008. Also the disk has to be newer than your current one! If it is older it will not work. A new drive from acura is upwards of 2000 dollars, repair costs around 180 dollars.
