Navigation Disc

Hey Guys,

I'm new here, I recently bought a 06 TL w/ Navi about 3 weeks ago, I noticed that when I turn on the car the navigation system loads up as Honda..I took it back to a different dealership and they said I got the car with the wrong disc which doesn't allow me to program my display time in the screen, they said I needed the official Acura disc which runs around $250.00 .. the car was bought from an Acura dealership and when I returned to that dealership they gave me a replacement upgraded disc straight out of another TL...when we loaded it up, it still showed Honda Navigation on the screen when you turn the car on..the sales guy suggested I drive around with it and see if the 'satellites' will change it .. i found it odd...so now im stuck with a honda navigation im assuming in my car and it doesn't sync the navi time with the car time...is there anything i can do..any suggestions? thanks

each model year has its own color disc to identify them, and has its own version series
example gen2 TL is in the 4.
series Gen3 TL 5.something
MDX 7.2 etc

You get the correct disc from alpine electronics- thru acura.com
You have a right to the correct disc for your country and car

Check the owner manual for info on setting times- you can ask acura canada about it- ther may be a tech bulletin- Drop by the dealer and ask Service and Parts about it
NOT sales -

is there a way to reboot the navigation system via the control panel on the dash board instead of having to open the trunk and open and closing the dvd lip? I have an 03 acura cl...someone told me to hold down menu+map/guidance+cancel for 5 seconds...doesn't work

Try unplugging your car battery or better yet, pull the fuse in the kick panel. I'm not sure if this will do it, but I know when I did this, it forced the navi to re-boot completely and did its processing for about 15mts. so this might force the navi to read some of the startup files off the Acura DVD.

What I think happens is, the startup files are stored in a RAM type memory so the logos and stuff are stored on this chip which is needed for quick bootup, so they are not directly read off the DVD each time. This is why many of us are able to customize our logos and startup screens by using a regular CD (basically loading our logos and boot screens to the Ram chip) and then once loaded take it out and put the Acura DVD back in and that's it. The trick now is to somehow erase those logos you have now on the chip so that it will reload new ones from the DVD you have. So if we force it to reboot, I think it might work.

That's what I would attempt first. Will take you 5 mts. at most to do this. The fuse you want to pull I think (not 100%) sure is the 7.5 Amp fuse right next to the door and dome light fuse. Check it out.

You can force your car to reload from the Navi DVD by performing the following steps:

1. Go to your car.
2. Turn your car's ignition to ACC.
3. Open the trunk and insert your original navi disk.
4. Go back to the driver seat, the display will show some dvd read error, now press and hold "GUIDE" "MENU" and "CANCEL" for approx 5 seconds to bring up the diagnostic menu.
5. Wait another 5 seconds to let it load up completely. Press "version" button on the screen
6. Press "LOAD DISC".
7. Wait until it finishes loading.

If you have the correct DVD (it should be orange and should be version 3.X), then performing the above steps will fix it.

Suddenly, a few months ago, I got a persistent & continual DVD read error. A year and a half ago I bought a new navi disc and it's worked fine. (03 CL-S; quiet in the CL forums).
Curiously, the problem started after I cleaned out my trunk. Following up and looking closely at the DVD unit, I found a couple of wires on a socket hanging down. Curiously, there's no place to plug them in. The wires are green-brown-gray & blue-brown-gray. There are three other small wire harnesses that plug into the back of the unit.

I've cleaned the (pristine) disk carefully. I tried the "force load" trick above and got nothing. I remember using this trick when I got the new navi DVD.

Also, I recall from those days that it was verboten to go and use an older/original DVD after installing the new DVD, so I didn't use the original DVD on this test. Maybe my info (memory?) was wrong.

So: Extra wires? Original DVD? (Iranians..., Chinese..., Hondans...messing with the satellites? <gr>)

I have a question about the disk as well. I am a proud owner of a 04 TL that I purchased about a month ago. I wanted to upgrade my DVD so I purchased Acura Navigation DVD version 4.62. However, when I loaded in my car, it had a read error. Is this version not compatible with my car?

You are correct. the 4.xx series is for 07+ TLs only. You need the 3.XX series, the newest which should be 3.80 if i'm not mistaken.
