Navigation constantly resets

I drive an 06 TL with navigation and it's been a great car with minimal issues so far. Recently though the navigation system has begun resetting itself when you start the car. It will show "downloading" on the screen for maybe 20 seconds or so, then it will ask for the 4 digit unlock code.

If I enter the code, the navigation works fine, but it does the same thing when I go to crank the car up again next time.

There have been no (obvious) recent events which might have caused damage to the system.

Any ideas what could be causing this? What would a fix look like?

The battery is losing connection with the car.

Has the battery been tested?
If the battery is 3 years or older, replace it.

If the battery has tested as "good," start checking the battery cable clamps for tightness and corrosion.
If those are OK, then check the cable ends for tightness and corrosion, and check the positive cable for corrosion for about 2 feet from the clamp end.

Thanks guys.

The battery is an Acura branded battery from the dealership and is only 6 months old. The connections are clean and secure.

Any other idea what might be causing this? Could there be a loose connection behind the dash somewhere?

OEM battery is shit, when my battery took a dump last winter I end up with Autozone Duralast top series. BTW with the first 60k miles my TL took 3 trip to the dealer for 3 different OEM battery replacement (show up on carfax) the third one lucky enough to survive 3 years.

Does it only require code every time you start/restart the car?

If I enter the code, I can use the navigation just fine. Then next time I crank the car it will say "downloading software, do not shut off vehicle" for maybe 10 seconds, then it will ask me for a code.

If I do not enter the code it will just to go straight to the code screen next time I crank the car.

Its your DVD drive, its starting to crap out. Mine does that now as well. Before this all started to happen did you have any NAVI issues; like where it kept resetting by itself? My DVD drive kept resetting by itself, even while im driving, then it now it progessed to where it resets every time I use my car & take it for a drive; I have to download everytime I use my car. Your DVD drive is the issue.

Before sending the drive to Alpine, both you and OP should eject the DVDs and clean the reader lenses (without disassembling the unit) to see if that helps.

There is also another thread on disassembling the drive, cleaning the lens and mechanism at: https://acurazine.com/forums/audio-b...errors-873489/.

It's a 2013 disk, OEM copy. I've had it for two years and it's worked fine up until now.
