Silly questions follow:
Did you install the Navi disc in the DVD drive in the trunk?
If not, install it there.

Does your Navi work, despite not downloading software?
If not, get hold of the Navi and radio security codes, then disconnect the battery for 10 minutes or so and reconnect, then load the Navi DVD into the trunk drive.

If yes, what version Navi disc was in the drive previously?

I don't think there is any Navi software update after version 3.80, BTW.

Welcome to AZ.

Updated DVD Disc Not Loading

Thanks for the tip of disconnecting the battery and forcing the nav system to do a complete reset. Hate to loose all my data though. sigh. But, I will give it a try. Disc is last version of 2005 TL nav update. V 3.D0

Update. Disconnected battery for half an hour. Reconnected and system asked for a radio code. Put it in and radio came back on. Message said no disc in drive. Put the new disc in and message changed (for the first time) to "Downloading Software - Don't turn off engine". Message then changed to 16 rectangular boxes and began lighting them up left to right as the download progressed. In spite of numerous tries, never gets beyond the 13th box, then goes to "Check disc". Usually aborts at 5th box or so. Going to try to get it to read the old disk to see if the drive can actually still read discs. Considering it might be the stepper motor in the drive that's out of alignment or sticking or packing up. Sigh.

There shouldn't be any difference in reading the new disc or old disc.

See if you can get the Navi to work by cleaning the reader lens per the first couple of pages of the following thread: https://acurazine.com/forums/problem...errors-873489/.

Problem Solved

I tried all the fixes I could find on this site and none of them helped read the nav update disc. That included forcing the system to try to read the disc, disconnecting the battery to force a nav system reset, etc. I also pulled the drive and cleaned the laser mirror. (By the way, my drive unit was pristine inside the housing in spite of 10 years in the trunk.) None of these things changed the behavior of the new disc, namely the system would try to load it and then abort part way through. The old disc was loaded without any problems.

I asked for and got a replacement disc and it immediately loaded with no issues. They must have had a bad batch of discs that they burned.

My issue here is closed. Thanks for all who tried to help.

Wow, that's the first time I've heard of a new Navi DVD causing a problem.
Glad it's not a hardware problem, and thanks for letting us know the solution.
