Navi Update CD
Navi Update CD
Is anyone updating there navi CD to the 2010 White DVD Map Update v4.81 (for TL 07-08)??? Is it worth it?
Also its 185$

A new study shows that drivers with navigation systems:
- use 12% less fuel than those without them
- reduce their carbon dioxide emissions by 21%**
Purchased the upgrade DVD last month for my '08 TL (I still had the original factory DVD dated 2007). The only noticable difference is some of the maps are more accurate but the search feature still sucks (my Garmin Nuvi is 100% better)...
My 04 Tl still has maps from 2003, heh. I didn't jump on the deal last year before labor day. But I just got the Garmin 765T, and it's pretty nice especially w/ the 3D maps and live traffic. And also, the map updates for the garmin is free.
I'm just gonna wait for my next car to update my navi system. Audi Q5 Hybrid. Or maybe a new acura hybrid when they come out as long as it doesn't have buck teeth.

A couple people here have updated to the v4.81 disc. As for whether it's worth the cost (it's ALWAYS a rip-off), that depends on where you live, and whether Alpine has updated the disc in the area you live in or not.
Looks real nice. Small enough to carry on you as well. A bit pricey but the refubs look like good deals.

Is the search feature improved (give you closest location and not somewhere 100 miles away) and is the overall GPS faster (faster recalculating and result speeds)? I would justify spending the money on this if someone can back this up.

I went ahead and bit the bullet-I purchased it today. It should arrive Friday. My current disk is 3.55 and this new disc is the 3.81. My old disc is from 2007, so......
3.81? you mean 4.81? anyway, be sure to let us all know about what it's like and whether it's worth it. a full review! I'm still undecided.

Oops....you're right buddy-it's the 4.81. I have a friend here in Kansas City who bought this already in October. He really likes the disc. He said it's a big improvement.

Guys, I got the disc today and installed it right away. It was a very easy transition from disc to disc. It seems like there is a lot more POI's (Points Of Interest). I need to do with it tomorrow. But initial impression is good. I did look up Walmart and McDonalds-just to see what would happen. It did give me the local locations-not ones that were hundreds of miles away. So I was happy about that-that is a big improvement.

I've been working all day today guys, so I haven't had a chance to play with it more. But I did notice that there are a lot more logo's (for businesses like Sonic, Wendy's, etc.) on this disc when you're at the 1/8 mile view. The screen also seems brighter-maybe it's just me, but it seems easier to read too.
I have a 350 as well and have mounted it on the left just above the dash. it's in a cozy spot and is way more accurate and up to date than the built in nav. Moreover, if you lok in the right spot, you can easily find unlocked new maps so you know you'll always have the latest and greatest.
I started a thread about this a while ago and thought about picking it up but never jumped on it. After hearing about the improvements (the out of whack POIs is one of my biggest gripes) I may pick one up since Charlotte is one of the areas they worked on and I do so much driving for work.
I know you guys love the Garmin nuvi and I was a click away from getting it but I got the TOMTOM go 730 instead. I figured if I didn't like it I can give it to the woman instead and get the Garmin later.
i have an 05 tl and i got the 3.9 version (had the 3.5 version) however, the updates on the maps are up to my standards and the places/info in the search feature are right on too! is it worth $185?? depends on you area of living and your usage. im happy as now i know when i travel certain places i wont get the "please use caution as you are taveling to places with unverified roads".....wth? lol

DJ, I really do like the new disc. Lot's of new POI's and logo's on it, so it's very helpful. One thing my Service Writer pointed out to me is the importance of using apostrophes and names that are 2 words.
For example, when I typed in McDonalds, it didn't give me local restaurants. However when I typed in McDonald's-it worked like a charm.
The same thing with Walmart...is it one word or 2 words (Wal Mart)???? Give it a try.

After hearing some of the postives about the new 4.81 disc, I went ahead today and purchased it as well. The acuranavi.com website does say that my area has been updated, which will be nice. I know that we have a ton of new subdivisions that previously were not listed. It would be nice to have those now.
$185 is a ripoff, but at least I got free shipping!

if it's an orange DVD, then you guys would achieve something no one else has so far. If its version 4.X then yes it will work.

I've been trying to get it to work but with no luck. Someone on another forum I'm on suggested deleting the files with the street and POI data but I can't see how / why that would work because when I load the 3.9 dvd, it doesn't even update the firmware (which is what I presume the software will do before it loads the latest navigation version)

Each letter indicates a software update from the prior version-- so 4.81A is newer than 4.81, for example.
Either that or PM a member who just bought a new disc to see if they are willing to sell the prior DVD (assuming it's newer than the 3.40 that came with the '05).
The Navi DVD is a physical DVD which must be in the drive to work; IIRC there are some technical challenges to duplicating the orange Navi discs, too.

Yes-- the 04-06 use orange 3.XX discs, while the 07+ use white 4.XX discs due to changes in the Navi system.

For the '05, you should probably look for a 3.70 or 3.80 (orange) disc in the Black Market or on Craigslist; the current disc is 3.90.

IDK-- best to check the Acura/Navteq site for parts numbers to see if they are the same.
You do not need to upgrade step-by-step: you can get the 2010 Navi DVD for the '05-- that's the 3.90 disc-- and install it immediately to replace the 3.40 that came with the '05. However, the new 3.90 is $185.
A used 3.80 or 3.70 would have better POI and more accurate info than the 3.40 as well as be a bit cheaper than the $185 new disc if purchased from someone who installed a 3.90.

I went to ebay and picked up the prior version. They have the original for sale and not a copy. I don't want a copy. I do it every year so I'm (close to) up to date for a lot less than the new update.
