Navi Tip

The navigation manual suggests that when you are using the address function to input a navi location that it is often preferable to enter the street name before entering the city name. This is recommended because it will often reduce the amount of data you need to input. However, in areas where mapping is incomplete, this approach may not turn up the location you are looking for.

If you enter the street address information first, you will be asked for the name of the street and then the number on the street. If you enter this information and your location is in an area where steet number information is lacking in the database, then the City you hope to go to will not appear in the list of locations. This will leave you with the impression that the location you are seeking is not in the system. Often, this is not the case.

If this occurs, you should then attempt to find the location by entering the City name first and the street name second. You will not be asked for a street number as the system does not have mapping in that amount of detail for the location you are going to. Often the system can find you the street in the City which is incompletely mapped even though it will not find you the exact address.

An example may show this more clearly. I wanted to go to 405 Riverview Drive in Chatham Ontario. I went to the address function and under the street name entered Riverview. The range of numbers that came up should have included 405. I attempted to enter 405 but that number was not found. I realized that this meant that if the location in Chatham was in the system it did not include street inumber nformation. I then went in and entered Chatham as the City and when I entered the street name I got a location. Of course, the system did not permit me to enter the street number as the mapping was incomplete for Chatham. The mapping would take me along the entire street and when I got to Chatham I had to find the correct street number.

If 405 Riverview was a mapped location in the system for another City, then I would have been able to enter it, but because this address was not mapped for Chatham, Chatham would not have turned up in the list. of locations

I find this occurs a lot in smaller towns off of well mapped routes.

It took me some time to realize that when you enter an address using the street name first, the system will only provide you with information to completely mapped areas. You can only get access to information for incompletely mapped areas by starting with the City.
