Navi shows road name, says unverified area...?

More often than I'd like my navi will show the road i'm on, say the name on the street, have the street in the system, but won't give directions and says I'm in an unverified area.

It looks like usually the roads that it does this too are in gray versus black, but if it knows the road and the name of the road, why doesn't it work?

Is there a work-around for this?

Thanks!

the only work around is to get an updated navi disk. The road has been pulled from a map source, but hasnt been verified by one of those vehicles that drive around confirming roads yet.

they just put out the 08 release

My 25 year old house wasnt on the map until I got a new disc!!

Thanks for the replies. This seems ridiculous. My cheap Mio from 2006 has the roads, but not a 2000 dollar navi system?

Also paying 100 dollars for an updated disc seems asinine considering you can get an entire new stand alone unit for around that price. Maps should be like 20 bucks max.

Anybody who wants to be "nice" and direct me to a way to get one of these on the cheap please PM me...much appreciated.

And this is exactly why I am having a hard time justifying the expense of the Navi option and haven't pulled the trigger on anything just yet.

Take it up with Alpine. I tried. I even spent 30 minutes with Acura customer care as I bought a brand new 2008 TL that had an old disc. They would not do anything for me.
My Garmin update cost me $55.

turn on unverified routing in your car in the setup menu, you will be guided, but will have to push the ok button.

I had a 97TL with a garmin nuvi 760 with MSN direct in it. Traded it out for an 04TL with navi which I love to bits. But I couldn't convince the dealer to give me an upgraded DVD to sweeten the deal. So now, instead of spending $200 on a new navi DVD, I keep the Nuvi in the centre console and will use it when I cant find somethign on the car's Navi.
