Navi Screen Cracked!!!

I had a skurfer in my car, resting on the center console and the rear seat. Hit the breaks real fast....slam...crack. The screen still works, just not the touchscreen. It is obvious that there is a thin piece of glass in there that allows a touchscreen to be a touchscreen. I have heard that acura will try and charge 3-4 k for a new one. The question is: can I get a replacement? Has anyone ever taken apart a navigation system? I read somewhere that you can just get a glass guy to cut you the same piece and you can carefully replace it yourself, without completely ruining the touchscreen sensors. HELP! this sucks

Read through this http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/lcd-...-acura-tl.html thread in mp3car forums and you can get a part number similar to the factory one and may need to search around to find out where you can purchase one. Sorry to hear that happened to your screen.

This is the same thing like a laptop touchscreen. Glass is behind that protective film. I'm afraid both things are sealed on the edges. I would look for a crashed TL with navi. Good luck

Find a used one if you can...

My screen just crapped out. They told me $3.5K to replace...I told them I had an extended warranty and to fix it. The service guy just called and told me that Acura didn't want to replace it, but wanted it sent out for repair, which is a 3 week turn time. He said he convinced them that they just need to put a replacement in, which I have to pay a $50 deductible for.... I can't wait to hear why I'm paying a deductible for something that's covered under warranty.

extended warranties are usually from a 3rd party company and carry a deductible.

on another note, what's a skurfer?

on ebay every now and then will have a screen for sale. So you can maybe get one for 500 or so and ask members how to take it apart, etc

It was actually a wakesurfer, basically a small surfboard that you use behind a boat.
