Navi screen always on?

Do you guys always have your navi screen on, either in map or audio modes?

Any concerns that always having it on will reduce the life of the screen? Or is it designed to last past a decade?

I only have mine on when I need it or if some one asks me to turn it on so they can watch it. Any other time it's off.

I am sure it was built to be on a lot and you shouldn't have to worry about the life of the screen. I sold my 99 TL to my cousin and it has a navi and screen looks just like the day I bought it.

It's made to be on all o f the time. It won't burn-in or wear it out early. Just leave it on.

I was at local electronic store yeserday. LCD manufactures now guarantee 60,000hrs with their screen before lamp needs to be replaced. that's 11 years if screen is on 24 hours a day. 30+ years based on 8 hours a day operation.

they're the same calculations I did when I bought a Sharp LCD TV.

still working perfectly after 2 years. I don't think I'll have the TV, or the car when they reach 60,000 hours.

Yea, but you can alter the display by just turning it completely off. But I don't think u should have any problems leaving it on I always leave the map on anyways.

If anything I would think the constant on and off would where it out faster.

OMG-Same ppl that shut the computer down every night I bet. The car will be a rusted crapper before burn-in or over usage.

lcd screens don't get burn in. that's the advantage they have over plasma and why they are used for computer screens and for navigation screens.

can't rememebr off the top of my head, but i think it's under setup... i think there is also a command, "setup display off" or something like that, can't remember... of course the other way is just not to hit "okay" at the begining and it just goes off by itself.

as for LCD screens, no, they dont get burn-in, the only real part that can fail over time is the backlight bulbs. they do get dimmer over time, but as some people have said, they have a pretty long "half-life", time before the bulbs are half as bright as they were when they were new... however, one of the worst things for CCFL bulbs is to run them when cold... even though the CCFL stands for COLD Cathode Flourescent, they dont actually like to be operated in cold weather. They are also not as bright at first when turned on when cold, thats why a lof LCD monitors are a little dim at first, and quickly brighten up. Where I work, we deal with LCD panel manufacturers (not like sony, sharp, etc. but companies like Rockwell Collins, Barco, IS&S, etc.). In their displays, a lot of times they actually have heaters to get the display up to full brightness quickly when the screen has been sitting in a cold envronment... quikcly not only to allow the screens to be bright quickly, but also to minimize the times the bulbs are operated when cold.

and for anyone interested in some reading...
