Navi/Radio question

Just curious, do the navi/non-navi 05 TL's use different radios? I recently purchased a complete set of navi-system components, and the package came with a radio, however being used, it is not in the best shape, and if possible I would like to keep my existing radio.

How could a radio be in bad shape, how do you know? I believe you can use your existing radio, it just plugs into the navi ECU.

Cosmetically speaking it's in bad shape, well.. not bad shape, just a scratch here and there, maybe not noticable to most, but my car is only 2 weeks old and I would notice

Another note, does anyone know if I would be able to get all the plugs for the navi components from the dealer? I have all the components, but none of the wiring.

Try doing a search....I believe there is a member on this forum who did a non-navi to navi swap. He might be able to help you with the wiring harness questions.

yeah, read his entire thread, sent him a PM but no response At least I know it can be done, but I want to make it as easy as possible. Just kills me to see the Navi unit sitting in a box instead of in my dash where it belongs

Just curious here...

If you just bought the car recently, why didn't you get the navi with it if you wanted it? Was buying the navi components significantly cheaper (not including your time)? Are the components from a salvage yard?

I suspect the headunit itself is the same so you shouldn't need to swap it out. I'm only guessing, though, as I would think that would be the most cost-effective way for Acura to do it.

picked up the Navi unit for $600 on eBay, thought it was a good deal and didn't want to pass it up. I was talked out of getting the Navi by my dad... now I'm kicking myself for it, but oh well...

That seems like a good deal for a fully-integrated navigation system. Its price is about the same as non-integrated aftermarket units, but you should gain all kinds of functionality only available to the stock system.

Depending on your comfort level with the conversion, it might be worth a call to your dealer to see what they would charge for the install. Also, I would ask about how the warranty would be affected. I wouldn't expect them to warranty the new system as they don't know its history, but they may be more accomodating in the future of unrelated problems if they know they installed the conversion for you.

Good luck!
