Navi Problems
In the past month I have run into this problem three times with my nav. It simply just isnt displaying my current position correctly and after about a day it fixes itself. Has anybody else ran into this problem? I am bringing my car in for a standard service this weekend and I am going to have them look at it. Also you guys think that I should disconnect Dom's Kit / take it out?
On occasion, maybe once every 3 weeks or so, I will start up my car and start driving, and it will show me one street over than the street I'm on. I think it just has to do with the fact that triangulating your position on the earth to within a few feet of accuracy using satellites that are over 66 million feet away is difficult to say the least and sometimes even the best GPS systems don't get it exactly right.
When you turn your car on, it does the usual GPS satellite triangulation, which takes a long time. Acura didn't put the loading screen graphic plus make you wait forever to look at the disclaimer for nothing. It takes that long for your navi system to determine where your car is. After it does the initial lookup, your navi almost exclusively determines its position by using yaw (steering) sensors and the speedometer. That is, it looks your position up once, then senses your speed and direction to determine where you are from there on out. So one miscalculation during the initialization means that the navi will show you on the wrong place during the entire trip. Sources of error include having your car parked inside of a garage when you start it (the GPS satellite signal attenuates greatly when your car is parked inside of a structure and as a result, your navi system may not triangulate perfectly).

i dont think that it is cause it was more than 30 miles off one time. i work in lakewood nj and live in matawan nj and is roughly 30 miles apart. i got home from work one day and looked at my nav screen and said that i was in the lakewood area.
One time it had me at the right place, but the destination miles was wrong.. It said that I was 2800 miles away from some place that was only 20 miles away...
Probably a GPS issue.. Bad signal maybe... Went away shortly...

A couple times my system did the same thing and then I realized that when my kids sat in the back seat they had placed my foil windshield screen thingy up on the rear deck and that really messed with the GPS reception, or do you have a high metallic content film on the rear window? I have heard that may cause some problems
A lot of factors can degrade your GPS reception. Two that I can think of now are tints and bad weather. Have you added tinted film to your car recently? How is the weather in your area? Certain cloudy/wet conditions may bounce satellite signals in the wrong direction.
How long ago did you install Dom's unit? If you are planning to have the dealer diagnose your nav, I would take it out.

i do have platinum tint installed in my car and know that i think it, it tends to happen when there is cloud cover. im thinkin the combination of the tint and weather might be doing it. the tint is also causing static in my radio when the rear defroster is turned on
Does any one know where the GPS antenna is located? I was wondering if I could move the antenna some where so that the tint would not be interfering with the signal. I would like to avoid having my tint changed, anyone think that this would work?
Thanks for the input guys. When its gets a lil warmer out im going to see if there is anything that I can do to relocate the antenna so that the metallic tint will not have any effect on the signal. I'm pretty sure that its a long shot but if I figure something out I will be sure to let you guys know.
