Navi problem!

So the other day (bout 4 days ago), my navi screen said "DVD disc reading error please consult your dealer."

I took out the disc and checked for scratches/scuffs and didnt' see any, but proceeded to clean the disc off.

After inserting the disc, the same message came up. I decided to wait til the next day to go to the dealership, as it was already past 7 pm.

The next day, I get up to go to the dealership, and after turning on my car, the loading screen doesn't even show up. The screen shows black and said, "Downloading software.....please wait." after which, it screen goes black and says "disc reading error." I tried using the buttons below the navi screen to bring up the diagnostic screen, but the buttons no longer work, and neither does the HFL. The bluetooth in the car still works though.

I'm going to be going to the dealership tomorrow to see if a new disc will solve the situation, but i doubt it.

I'm also out of warranty, and upon searching, found that sending the unit to Alpine directly would cost around $150-$200 to fix.

Any possible solutions before i ship the unit out?

Sounds like the drive is toast, send to Alpine.

There have been an alarming amount of Navi failures as of late. Not a good sign for long term durability, considering it's probably the most expensive part of the car aside from the motor and trans itself.

yeah, i noticed that since i ran a search for the issue. It really pisses me off that this happens RIGHT after i get out of warranty period.

My Navi is at Alpine as we speak...

Same here guys. Myself and another friend in my office both have an 04 and both of our Navi's went out within a month of each other.
I guess this could be expected and really for the price of 158.00 for repair I could not really complain that much.

Just another computer in the car that is bound to go out at some time. Think of all of the stops/starts that motor has to endure and it only makes sense that it would eventually give out.

On a same note, I called Alpine and it specifically was the control board on the navi system. To validate what others have said on this board, the person at Alpine told me personally that there is a backlog of that part and it will take an extra week to get mine installed. There really is a problem but it is not that bad all things considered...

Have a great day!

well in a turn of events, my navi just started working today. I did nothing to change the situation other than go out to my car and turn it on. I'll just have to pray that it stays working for longer. =P
