Navi not having current address
Navi not having current address
Overall my experience with the Navi has been great. But, it has been brought to my attention this weekend that it is lacking alot of address's that should be there even for the 2004 dvd. These are streets that have been around for quite some time, but just aren't on the navi. I looked at the updates for the navi disc's but there has been no updates for my area since my specific disc was made. So I'm guessing even if I did get the update nothing would be improved......right?
How are others Navi in the SoCal area? Other than that when the adress in in the Navi it works perfectly getting me there, its just when the adress can't be selected.....meaning the navi doesn't know about it.

I would think that to create the dvd in 2004, they would have been using map datum from earlier than that... like say 2000... how old are the roads that you are missing? I used to live in So Cali so I know how much construction there is...

The construction has been from 1998-2003. Not that extremely recent, but like I stated the updates do not state that anything new has been added for my area. I guess I'll just have to wait till something comes out, I might check out some other people navi's to see if there version finds these address's
Agree with jmbnova ^^^^
According to an LA Times article, the mapping companies are about a year or two behind on parts of SoCal and NoCal that are continuing to be developed.
What annoys me, but is not the Navi's fault, is when a new store does not show or store/restaurant has closed or moved. Then again, neither a paper map nor telephone book would be of use in that situation....

Yeah I'm not talking about stores specifically.
example:
This past weekend we went to Eibach and the navi not only couldn't find it in names, it couldn't even find the road it was on. I was told that the business park had been there for close to 10 years. Thats the business park, I'm sure the road has been there longer. So its not even considered recent in my book

Understood ^^^. I haven't run across the problem of a missing street or road yet as I haven't driven in any new development areas.
If you are on a newly-developed street, the Navi should plot your location, but not show a street or street name. If you're shown driving on a street and the name is different, there is either an error on the DVD and/or the city re-named the street (i.e. "Cesar Chavez" instead of "Sunset Blvd" in downtown LA).

Post an address, and I'll check it on my 2006 disc.

There are gas stations on the Navi that have been closed for years in Dallas (and the post office in the wrong location - it's been at the current address for at least 5 years) I hope that Maryland is better!

Doesn't show up in mine either. I'm going to check my other two NAV units. Each a different vendor. I'll let you know.
