NAVI "Auto" display not consistent.

Has anyone else have this problem? Every other day when I drive my car at night, the display is bright and not the black background it supposed to be at night?

Also, note that the "MAX" button for your dash lights acts as a toggle to flip the brightness back and forth from the maximum setting to your night setting. This is useful on rainy days, for example, when you need your headlights on but need the dash lights at their max setting.
