Exclamation Nav unit code

Hey all I'm new to the forum and look forward to many posts, I recently bought an 05TL/MT/Nav and absolutely luv the car one of the best cars I've ever owned and I'm almost 50 so I've owned alot of cars. I need the code for the nav which I'm told is accessible via the unit in the trunk, u take the serial # off that and Acura dealer can get me the code. I need to know how difficult it is to get that unit out of if I should just pay the dealer to do it. Thanks for any info.

you will have to take out the navigation dvd drive and the serial will be underneath it. There's also a way to pull it digitally, I'll have to check on the exact procedure for it. But you take the serial number to acura with proof of ownership of the vehicle, and they will give you the code. Also have you checked near and/or around the glovebox like where the valet trunk lock button is, or literally on the outside, side of the glovebox? Also open up the hood and check under the fuse box cover to see if the code might be stuck in there.

CS, is this in reference to the radio code or just the navi code? I had to get a new battery and now mine keeps prompting for a code. If its off the bottom of the DVD drive in the trunk that isn't bad. I thought it was off the head unit and I didn't want to remove the dash to get the serial. If you can find the info to get the serial electronically, that would be great. I have hunted every panel of the car for the sticker but I don't think it was ever applied. I bought the car used, so the original owner or dealer never put it on there.

OK, I'm stumped. I got the serial for the radio from the display. I also got a serial number off of the back of the nav dvd drive. However, when I go to Acuralink, it says that neither match my vin. Is the serial for the dvd a 7 digit number? All the posts say it is on the bottom, but mine was a small sticker on the back of the drive.

When I put the nav serial in by itself on acuralink it says it doesnt match. Same for the radio serial.

I found a website that will give me the radio code for $20, but I dont need it since the radio is working but the nav asks for a code.

I've hunted the entire car over looking for the sticker to no avail.

Any suggestions?

^ What exactly are you looking for? The NAVI code?

As I stated before, its a 4 digit code. Check this thread for your answer.

I am looking for the NAVI serial number. The only thing on my DVD nav drive is a 7 digit number. Can anyone confirm that the navi serial is a 7 digit number.

As I stated previously, I have searched the entire car over looking for ANY code of 4 or 5 digits with no luck. The CODES are not on the car.

I am aware that with the SERIAL #, I can retrieve the CODE. BUT, when I put in the SERIAL on AcuraLink, it said it was not correct.

I'm wondering now if the drive had been replaced or if the car was originally a non-navi.

You don't need the Nav Serial Number in order to get the Navi to play...

Open your glove compartment, look on the side panel of the glove compartment that is on the radio side. You will see both Nav code and Radio Code. Radio Code will be only numbers, and I believe Nav code is both Numbers and letters

Funny, I had the same problem last night. The serial # for the navi is located on a sticker on the navi unit that holds the DVD which is located in your trunk. You will need to remove some clips and pull back the trunk liner in order to access this unit. Once you do this you should see 4 screws that hold the unit down, unscrew them and you should be able to move it around enough to turn it upside down or sideways to locate the sticker that has the serial # on it, mine was on the bottom.
Once you have the serial # you can go here http://owners.acura.com/ to find your code, you should not need to go to the dealer. The site will ask you to verify some info such as vin #, phone #, and so on, once the system verifys your identity you will be asked for the radio serial # and the navi serial #, once you enter those, the site will provide you with your codes. Print them out or write them down. I am assuming you looked in your glove box and owners manual for these codes first right?
Oh and I almost forgot, if you just recently purchased your car and the dealership has not updated your info to the vin # of your car yet this system may not work, in that case I would call customer care. The phone # is on that site. Good Luck!

Fulani - I do need the serial number. As I've stated more than once now, there is NO sticker with the CODES anywhere on the car.

CarrieLynn, can you tell me if the serial number on your nav was just 7 numbers? I removed the DVD drive but there was nothing on the bottom, just a serial number sticker on the back of it. I tried the Owners link website and my VIN is matched with my phone number and zip code, but it says the serial number for the radio and navi do not match. I got the serial for the radio by doing the 1 and 6 button power on.

My serial # for my navi is 3 letters followed by 8 numbers. I used the 1 & 6 buttons on the radio to get the # for that as well. If you are still having trouble I would try to call customer service. Maybe they can help you and you will not have to make a trip to the dealer. Let me know how you make out.

when you do the 1 & 6 method, you will have the letters U/L at the beginning of each 4 digit display, disreguard those when you give it to acura.

Weird, when I did the 1 and 6 method, the Navi display doesn't stop prompting for the Code to be entered, but the display by the A/C and clock is what shows a number. It is just one 8 digit number, with no letters. Perhaps that isn't the correct serial then.

OK, after some more messing, it appears the serial I got on the display was from the satellite radio some how. I have tried the 1 and 6 method over and over again and nothing will show up on the display at all. What am I doing wrong? With the ignition in the ON position, if I hold the 1 and 6 and try and power on the radio, it never comes on while the 1 and 6 are depressed. I've tried it in the acc position, on, running. I tried holding 1 and 6 and powering on, I tried powering on and then 1 and 6.

I really hate this car right now. I'm still stumped as to why there is no serial number on the bottom of the DVD drive, just one on the back, and no one can confirm if it is supposed to be just 7 numbers.

Also, why would I only have to put in the Nav code? I would think after disconnecting the battery it would need both to function, but the radio works fine still.

ok, I'm confused. Your radio works? If it does you don't need to do the 1 & 6 thing, that is to get the radio serial # only.
You said you took up the navi unit and got a serial # off of the sticker on it right? That is the serial # you need to get the code for the navi.

Sorry, I think I may have confused you, I just reread my earlier post and I said I used the 1 & 6 method, I meant I used this for the radio serial # not the navi serial #.

OK, now its beginning to make sense why the 1 and 6 method didn't work. Since the radio is working, that doesn't work.

On to the Navi. The only serial number on the DVD nav drive was a small sticker with 7 numbers on it, and it was on the back of the drive near the harness connection. Does that jive with what others have seen?

I checked the bottom of the drive and there wasn't anything.

I'm gonna yank it again in a minute to make sure I didn't transpose a number.

Like I said mine was on the bottom, three letters, 8 numbers, but it's possible yours is different. May I suggest you call Acura? Here is the toll free # 1-800-382-2238 give them the serial # you have and they will give you the code right over the phone. If the serial # you have is not correct they should be able to tell you that too. Hurry tho they are only open till 5pm!! GOOD LUCK!

edit - they are open till 5pm pacific time...don't know what state you are in....

OK, so I took some pics of the drive. This is the only serial number on it.

This is the bottom of it.

I called Acura and they said they cant do anything without a serial number.

Since this looks like a dead end, I have two other questions.

If I try every combination from 0000 - 9999 will it lock me out?

Can I purchase just the DVD drive new from Acura to get this fixed.

I f'n hate this car now.

ouch, I'm sorry to hear that. I'm a little concerned about what was on that sticker that was ripped off, I wonder if that could have been it. I would leave your trunk apart and actually take the car to the dealer. There has to be something they can do!!!

it's on the sticker that was ripped off. Acura should be able to pull the codes for the system through the HDS system with the newer updates.

Carrie, the trunk liner is easy to remove. Unscrew the cargo hook anchors and the take out the few clips and it pulls off. There's a DIY and service scan thread in the 3G garage.
