nav problem question

hey guys, im looking for some help with my navi. For some reason when i need to find shops or stores, it find some that are 300-600 miles away. This is the steps i take....
Hit menu, then places, then i search by category. after typing in a category..lets say radioshack, it list radio shack that is 300+ miles away. Is there something wrong with my navi or is it a setting that isnt correctly set.
The navi map shows my location fine when im driving. This only happens when i do a search for a place...
any tips/advice?

this is a 2008 TLS navi

It's a well-known problem that unfortunately has never been one for which a solution was found.

Note that there ARE typos from time to time in the Navi POI database, too, which can further affect whether it properly finds a location.

"Radio Shack" is a "Name," not a "Category," which is why you are getting sent off to never-never land. "Category" means types of places, not names of places.

Try selecting "Electronics" or "Shopping" in "Category" before entering "Radio Shack" as a "Place Name."

Otherwise, just select "Places" and then "Name" and enter "Radio Shack."

G/L!

okay there is an error in my statement. If you hit "places", then hit "name"...then type in anything (walmart, radioshack, starbucks, wendy's, subway, etc...) then it will list stores that are 100+ miles away.

What i highlighted in bold is what i did to get the nearest store and it gives me one 200+ miles away.

"Radio Shack" is usually listed as 2 words and must be entered as such, or it could be Radio Shack Corp....
Also, multi-store outlets like Starbucks can be entered under a plethora of names- "Starbucks," "Starbucks Coffee," "Starbucks Coffee Inc.," etc.- not including typos created during data entry like "Star Bucks," etc.
"Costco" is actually under "Costco Wholesale," but there are category listings for the tire centers, optical and corporate HQ as well.

If the entry you want is mis-spelled, it won't be easy to find.

Try using "Categories," then "Place name" to see if that will give you better responses.
