My quick fix to rear sub rattle

So after 4 years of putting up with this, I finally searched the forum for a fix on the rear sub rattle. I was about to take off the upper carpet lining of the trunk to insert some foam in the slots, but saw that someone else just did what I did, but used cardboard instead. I had the black packaging foam in the basement that probably couldn't have been any more perfect. I was going to use a scissors to cut the foam, but it was already sliced in perfect sections. I literally fixed this in about 1 minute.

So as you see in the pics, all I did was shove these foam pieces down in to the back window cracks. Bam! Done! No rattle!

ive fit an aftermarket there already kicker something. no it couldnt be a huge sub but i dont need/want a huge sub. just enough to make it sound right. i have 500 watts going to my 10" hertz sub in the trunk now but i bet 150 would work nicely in stock location.

excuse my ignorance..
so all u do is squeeze the flat pieces of foam between the rear deck and the rear window? i can see there is bit of play towards the back where it meets the window but i just cant see how i can squeeze the foam back there

Yep. That's all I did back in early '06 with mine. I actually squeezed two pieces of cardboard in the same place as the OP. It worked well even with a pair of 12s in the trunk at the time. There are many threads of people doing this since '04 on these cars but they're buried in time. This is by far the simplest and most effective way.

I suppose it depends on how light the foam you are using is. The foam I used was fairly light and squinched it down in the crevice real nice.

So I finally did this this week, after stuffing a little foam up through the trunk lining a few months ago. These two combined seriously got rid of almost all rattles I had, even with a 10W6 in the trunk.

I need to find something a little better then the thin blue pads I have in there now to make it a bit more discreet, but I couldn't believe how much this super easy fix helped. Anyone have a little extra black foam they want to toss in the mail?

opening up the liner under inside the trunk, worked alot better for me.
stuffing a piece of cloth under the metal dramatically stopped the rattling!

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...t=trunk+rattle

takes literally less then 10mins.

^ I'm sure you can buy foam anywhere. I don't think it matters what type of foam or where it is from.
