My non-navi to navi conversion '05 TL
whats up guys i just wanted to post up some pics of a navi conversion im doing for a a friend and fellow acurazine member TL310. this is the second navi conversion on a 3rd gen TL that i have done. the first was on my previous car a 04 TL . TL310 was able to gather up up all the parts pretty quick. but all the connectors were cut so i had to custom make a new wire harness. im getting to know this car pretty well now, and im also getting pretty good at this navi stuff. i still have to install a rear back-up camera and doms tv to nav converter i'll do it tomorrow. this is what i did.
oh yea BTW, HI! DMZ and no it would not be cheaper to trade in for another car w/ navi.
this is what i started with
these are the connectors taken from the display screen and dvd rom drive. make sure you label everything!
after a couple of hours of wire stripping and soldering if finished the custom wire harness. i bought some 4 and 2 conductor shielded wire fron an electronic shop. again label everything. you'll need the ETM manual and service manual to know were everything goes.
i removed the rear seat to install the gps antenna
i removed the center console clock, radio and old display
i used this custom made tool to pull off the center air vents that has the clock display on it.
began to run the wire harness down the passenger side and through the trunk
after making all the connections i tested to see how i did.
bingo!!! acura navigation!
i'll post pics of the the reverse camera and doms unit when i get that in. what do you think.

Nice work as always jp. Thanks for proving, once again, that a factory navi conversion is possible.
I'm curious though if TL310 even considered using '07 parts.

Wow Jaime your the man dude.
Dang it hurts me to see my car all apart like that on the firtst pics (Tear tear) But then I saw the Navi and I got all happy.
I got all the parts of ebay complete & Real quick turnaround. jptl04 has done all my installs and I truly can say he is my installer.

Ok guys So jptl04 finished the navi install. And I must say jptl04 know his stuff man. works wonders man.
Its like having a new car again I love it got to get use to it.But Do to some install issues he did not have a chance to install the DOM & camera. which will be installed in couple of weeks when more research is done so he just wired the power wire and ran the toggle switch so we dont have to take the car apart again.
Problem that ocurred was he had the DOM unit playing fine. I beleive he followed a fellow memeber DIY so he wired everything up and He was playing video games and playing movies. So he was like cool and then we he swithced it back to navi the navi froze and the touchscreen did not want to work. So navi works and I got no DOM installed for the momement. what you guys think the problem was.
Question on the navi. How do you make the lady talk louder.
So what you think guys.

I have a 2007 TL without Navi. I regret not purchasing it now. I doubt I can install it as well JPT did. Does anyone know if the dealer would do this installation and how much would they charge?

If your going to go with the dealer they wont do it might as well trade it in for one with navi. But if you have ur car all fixed up then having it installed is the way to go.

I am glad to see JPTL04 has helped out another member do a non-navi to navi conversion. He has helped me do mine and all was fine. Looking to ebay is a great way to get the main components and look to Acura del Ray for the misc. If you order through their online website service, $$$ will be saved. For my two cents to anyone about to do this, buy a new upper and lower steering wheel cover. It is better to break the existing one off and install a new one. I tried for 45 minutes to get mine off and finally performed a man handling method to get it off. Great job JPTL04!

I've always said the best part of getting the Navi is that you'll never be one of the 10's of 1000's who thought they were being smart by saving money thinking it wasn't worth it who wound up banging their heads into the wall wishing they had. Why do you think the majority of used 3G TL's out there for sale are non-Nav units?
At this point, your best option is to trade it in. If you search the threads here of those who've done the conversion and see how much of your car has to come apart, you'll agree. Furthermore, you get the backup camera with the Nav on an '07/8.
