Music Link... and a HK D&{

Hi all,

Have been reading a number of the posts regarding IPod integration in the TL. I've got an '06 w/o navi manual transmission with a dealer installed music link.

Along with the rest of you, I'm happy with the sound quality of the ML, but the UI is really bad enough that I dread switching between much of any of my songs in the car. The six-year old music buff in the family drives me nuts going from the Clash to the Blues Brothers soundtrack!

It so happens that I picked up an IPod classic for the wife for Christmas and found that the HK D&P can now easily be had new for $35 + shipping. So, I took a flyer on picking one up for her Honda Oddy. Even with the FM Modulation it works pretty good. The interface is exactly what I want in my TL, but the sound quality isn't quite so goood, as expected...

So, in reading through a bunch of threads I've seen that some posters have mentioned that the ML is an AUX device. If I'm to read that correctly, when my D&P that I just ordered for myself arrives, I'll be able to hard wire the D&P directly into the stock head through the ML? Am I understanding the posts correctly?

So, in essence I'll have over paid for the ML to just use it as a fairly simple AUX. If that's the case, it's good by me. Frankly, with $35 incremental investment... I see it as an upgrade to get a decent UI...

Can someone confirm my thoughts. I'm going to be doing the install myself so I'd really like to do this once I don't mind spending more on a different AUX, but if what I've got will work, well then... I'll just take my lumps for spending the last year and a half with the ML and move on. But, if I need something else, that's fine too. Just want to know before I get the car all torn apart.

Also... have been reading on the carpc stuff. It's totally amazing what is being done there. Have to say that if I had more time I'd do it myself... but then again... having the blue screen of death while driving might be a little more that I could deal with

Thanks in advance. Any direct emails will be summarized and posted back to this thread.

I have never delt with the ML, but from what I hear and see on the fourms and how acura discontinued it, it must be bad. I have the USA-SPEC HON2Y Ipod adapter in my 04 tl and it works flawlessly. It is a solid unit with great sound quality. Also the DICE unit is a good one from what is said around here.

I always thought the MusicLink was an iPod interface module. Meaning: you can only connect an iPod to it.

If this is still true, then sparcbox, you will have to invest in an additional aux-in module to get the HK module to work. I thought the HK came with a wired FM modulator of some sort. Sorry, it's been a while.

At any rate, aux-input modules are inexpensive. Check out the FAQ at the top of this subforum. There is a list of popular modules in there. For about $50 you can get that HK module working.

BTW, there are guides in the FAQ on how to install this stuff. Good luck!
