heres the deal:
for bout 3 years, i kept on converting my free mp3 files from places to WMA format to play on out cd players using a mp3 converter from the internet (mp321wma converter) recently, my bro whos done this for alot longer, picked up a cd player that is able to play mp3s. he tried the mp3 disc on his 96' landcrusier (cd,casette, radio 7 speaker) and it worked with no sould quality difference. i tried burning my own disc of mp3 and worked on our 03' suburban z71 (8 or 9 speaker, bose, 5 cd changer, radio, xm) and also worked with our TL. Yet all the g35 owners and tsx owner brag that on their stero, it says it is capable to play mp3. AND on the TL it dosnt...... thats y

I still don't get it.
How are you getting mp3s to play on the TL stereo? It sounds like you are saying you convert mp3s to wma format, and those work on our headunit? Please give instructions on whatever you are doing to get mp3s to play in our headunit....many people would like to know.

Im not buying it........ Most cd-burning software automatically converts MP3's to play in regular cd players. Are you able to listen to cd's that have like 150 songs?

When you burn a CD from MP3's stored on your hard drive as an "Audio" CD, the CD burning software records it to the CD as a regular music CD. Some have reported being able to store and play lots more songs by burning a blank DVD-R, though I'm yet to try it myself.

This guy is probably just burning an album to CDR and the software (unbenownst to him) is performing the conversion from MP3 to WAV.

I wish that the head unit WOULD recognize MP3's (Infinitis new head units do), but we will have to wait and see. I highly doubt this will be changed!

As far as the new HU infiniti has - ours of course don't support it - but I think in future model years - acura will have MP3 support. Just to keep up with the others. I also see them doing an integrated mp3 player - such as ipod (like bmw does).

What doesn't make sense is, the TSX can play MP3s (optional) and the RL can play MP3s (stock) why not the TL?!

I just burned some converted mp3's to wma format on a CDR.. and they play fine in my TL. What's the big deal? They're are the same size (they = wma's) as the mp3's I converted them from ... so I can burn a whole DVD-R or a CD-R full of wma's and it'll play just fine ... I'm thrilled, thanks for the info!!

I'm currently converting about 150 mp3's to wma right now w/ a free mp3-->wma convertor I found on download.com and I'll burn it and test it out in the TL.
More to come.

NO GO ... just tried it.
I burned the second disc w/ 650 mb's of WMAs.... burned fine .. plays on my computer thru WMP and WinAmp just fine ... does NOT play in the TL.
When I created the disc using "Create Audio Disc" .. it dumped the files into Windows Media Player, and then it said that only about 12 of the songs would fit. So it DOES appear that the WMA's are extracted into WAV format w/o the user seeing this, and burned to disc. When I re-looked at my first disc that I made that I thought was successful, I realize that through a glitch, it showed the WMA's that were extracted as files on the CD ... however, on re-look, it's just an audio disc and the WMA's are not on the directory.
Sorry guys ... at least we know for sure this is not an option.

Can't say I agree 100% with this - it depends on to whom royalties and licensing fees have been paid. I will say that I've tried two WMA CDs (data discs with WMA files on them) and the TL spits it back out after flashing the word FORMAT.

True ... good point. Plus, you get the ability to sort through directories w/ a stand alone mp3 player... it just seems so odd,. doesn't it, that the TL, in striving for the most tech-savvy entry-level luxo-sedan... failed to address the Mp3 issue...
I know more people that listen to mp3's than DVD-A's by a LONG SHOT...

i personally never found an mp3 support to be of any importance
mp3(or cd track) -> WAV
WAV-> diskwelder
one DVD-A = 99 songs (in case of direct CD->WAV->DVDA they don't even loose the quality)
times 6 (changer)
= almost 600 tracks
how many more do you guys really need on one trip?
besides xm150 never gets old!!!![Smile](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
i don't even listen to music these days

If the TL could play MP3s, it'd be important to me - but it can't, and the player integrations just aren't there. Sure, you can hook up an iPod through the XM port and put in a switch, but even the best MP3 player interface in the industry (iPod) isn't really safe to use while driving.
So, given that I go the DiscWelder DVD-A route with the TL. No, it is not as convenient or inexpensive to make DVD-A's as it is to make MP3 CDs or to put MP3s on my Zen, but it is what works, and hey you can do surround sound too (which, by the way, is supported by WMA but not MP3).
MP3 support would be nice, but it sure wasn't a deal-breaker for me even though I had an (aftermarket) MP3 head unit in my last car.
