V710 available at Radio Shack

I just saw on the Radio Shack website today that the V710 is available with Verizon.
I called a store near me and they said that the phone would not be available in store
until Mon. 8/2, but you can order it online and it would be shipped to you. The price is
$520 w/o contract, $320 w/ 2 yr. contract , and $350 w/ 1 yr. contract. Here is a link to
their website http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...5Fid=17%2D1971

If link does not work then go to Radio Shack website and go to phones for Verizon Wireless.

Cool!

I read somewhere that the TL's display won't show caller ID....let me know if that's true as that would be a big miss IMHO.

Thanks.

I confirmed this with RadioShack in Atlanta. Some orders were processed but later cancelled by RadioShack's central processing.

Price in Atlanta is $310 w/ two-year plan (or extension) but there will be "rebates" (figure $50-100).

Not worth it if you ask me. I'm waiting for the new Treo "Ace" and jumping to T-Mobile. For those not familiar with GSM that means I can also use my SonyEricsson T610 by moving my SIM card from phone to phone...

it's product # 17-1971. They pulled it from the Web site after getting too many requests and/or at Verizon's request. The product page, when it does reappear, will be at:

http://support.radioshack.com/produc...171971&Reuse=N

or you can search for 171971 from the homepage.

FYI...Contacted my local Radio Shack and pre-ordered the unit. Apparently their delivery sheet lists two V710s to arrive as early as tomorrow, or 08/03 at the very latest. The sales person claimed that the Radio Shack pricing with a 2 year plan (or extension) will be the same as the Verizon Store's with a catch....if you have the New Every Two program with Verizon and you get the phone from Radio Shack, you will not be able to get the $100 credit verizon offers toward a new phone.

Now does this mean that if you are an existing Verizon customer you can get the reduced price with an extension of your committment?

SOME Verizon customers get a reduced rate upon purchase (I get one- or two-year prices that new customers get if I extend my plan by that amount (1 or 2 years)). I view it as a scam.

Others get the "new every two" where they get $100 off either full retail or the 1- or 2-year plan prices (not sure).

Either way, it's not cheap.

As long as you are at least one year into your current contract, you can extend for another year and get the one year contract price. You cannot extend your contract beyond a total of two years per Verizon policy.

With the new every two thing (with plans over $39/month or something like that), I will get the 2 year price ($249 after rebate) and $100 off the phone for a total of $149....not too expensive at all

Where does it say this?? This would be the second time I have heard that it won't display caller ID info.. No one has the phone yet so I don't see how anyone can really say something like that.. Anyone have info I might have missed.

Do a search here and you'll find a thread with a link to a report over on howardforums about someone who tested the v710 in an 04 TL.

v710 functionality report

I've being playing with v710 for several hours now, here's what I've gathered so far:
the phone pairs with TL quite easy (just as v600 does)
unlike v600 NO signal strength is show on MID
the rest of funcs mimics v600, meaning caller id is there and no bettery indicator

Yes, but I believe that item on Howard Forums was from someone who had an early test unit. I also read that Motorola/Acura were working together to get problems resolved. So the question still remains, has anyone tested one of the new phones with a TL?

You would expect that someone testing this phone at Motorola tried this phone in a TL, since it's one of a handful of new cars with a built-in Bluetooth interface.

Thanks Groundhog.. What about answering calls, how is that? The V600 had some problems while the phone was closed which has been resolved with a firmware update. Just curious if that's not a problem on the V710..

Thanks again for the update.

Transfers/Send from Navi to phone and voice dial are working just fine. Ive had a sporadic problem with v600 when the phone was not detecting all the time unless it's open, no such problem discovered so far with v710. bluetooth functionality is seriously limited though. only voice gateway and dial-up profiles are there. I'm going to try USB cable to see if one can synchronize contacts/calendar etc with outlook.

Thanks again Groundhog. I think you've put to rest a lot of our fears regarding this phone and the TL. For me, as long as transferring calls between the phone and the car works, it can answer with the phone closed (and presumably in my pocket), and the caller ID works, I think I'm set. I don't care at all if I see my signal strength or battery life in the dash.

Looks good. Now I just need to find one...

How did you manage that and where is Porter Ranch (it doesn't come up on Mapquest)? The Radio Shacks near me don't have it yet and aren't sure when they will get it.

I think the concerns were also that it didn't pass the signal strength, battery status and possibly the caller ID back to the TL. I guess that the signal strength and battery status are probably not that big a deal, but the caller ID is pretty important.

Also, when you get it, see how it works dialing numbers from a destination in the Navi system. When you select a restaurant, say, there's a "Dial" icon which is grayed out. Presumably, this becomes active when you have a Bluetooth phone linked to the system. It will be interesting to see if this works with the V710.

I found a V710 at my local Radio Shack. I even had the privledge of holding the box!

I was all set to buy the phone, but RS isn't authorized to handle "Early Upgrades". I could have had the phone for full price ($520), but THAT wasn't going to happen.

The RS salesperson tells me that the Verizon stores won't be selling the phone until 8/11, but the stores can't seem to confirm it.

I guess I'm waiting 'til the phone hits the Verizon stores.

I look forward to reading reviews from early adopters.

Regards,

Regards,
I spoke to three Verizon stores in the San Diego area today... they all gave me the same release date: "mid-Augst".

Does anyone know if the signal strength / battery life / caller-ID can/will be added to v710 via firmware update?

Motorola V710 "NOW AVALIABLE"

In case you folks were sleeping, the new Motorola V710 (Verizon) bluetooth phone is now availiable. Not officially at Verizonwireless yet, but you can purchase the phone at your local RAT shack. Please keep in mind that quanties are limited, most of the stores will have 1 phones tomorrow.

I've been following this phone over on howardforums.com for the past few months now, and I know that a lot of people there are running to their local RS to obtain one.

If this is stale info, sorry for the repost then.

Well, do your self a favor and run down to your local Rat shack as most of them will have 1 to 2 phones in stock tomorrow. I was able to find one in my area and snagged it up. I've not had an opportunity to pair with the TL yet.

I've got the V600 and it's a nice phone! There are some issues I have with the programming but there's always something. Other than this it's a good phone. I like the look of the V710 but I don't care for that antena much. It reminds me of the old mobile phones. Does your signal strength really improve when extending it that 2 inches? It makes it look kinda cheap.

Thats the advertised price in the flyer. The 500 amount your speaking of is 519.99 and thats for just purchasing the phone without any contract. 319.99 with a 70/mail in is for a contract and the phone.

Porter Ranch is just adjacent to Northridge in the San Fernando Valley. I called around until I found the Radio Shack at the Northridge mall...the girl there knew about the phone and said that they expected it any day (this was Weds.). I asked her to let me know if she got it. The next day I got a call from her, they got 2 and one was for me.

Picked the phone up yesterday...I went upstairs to the Verizon Store to have the numbers transferred from my current phone to the new one, and half of the employees didn't know what the phone was, and the others had never seen one "live". Pretty funny Radio Shack got the phone 13 days before the official release.

The Radio Shack lady said very few R.S.'s got any of the phones, and also that she had received so many calls regarding the phone that she assumed any other stores that got the phones have sold them already.

Quick review....phone is attractive, but large (very light weight though)...great pairing with the TL...the picture quality is pretty good...the speakerphone is pretty cool...cannot wait to get my memory stick (on order) and cannot wait to get this thing to start playing MP3s...

If anyone wants to know anything about the phone, please ask!

So if you're an existing VZW customer, you're screwed, you pay full price. Paying over $500 for this phone is nuts.

VTec, what did you pay?
