Exclamation Motorola v710 and HFL Voice Notification

Ran into an interesting issue with my bluetooth Motorola v710 over the weekend. I have the "new" firmware (1.40.0D) in the phone that sends along the battery and signal strength info to the MID. Things worked great, initially. I picked my car up on Thursday evening (3/24), paired the phone, and all was just great. I could make and receive calls, receive calls even from folks where I had a "custom ring tones", and do call waiting correctly.

Being someone who has to "fiddle", I used the HFL "system" command to enter phone set up and change the incoming call notification from "ring" to "voice announcement" ("You have an incoming call...."). At that point, I could no longer receive incoming calls! The HFL would give me the voice notification, the MID would show the number, I'd press the "Talk" button, and the MID would go dark and the call would be disconnected (it's possible I could have used the talk-cancel-talk button combo to retrieve it, but I don't think I tried). I reset the car to use "ring" notification, and everything worked as it had before.

So, if you have the v710 and if you are not able to take incoming calls, you might want to check your car's HFL incoming call notification....

I recently had my V710 updated with the new firmware and changed my notification as well. However, I have not had the problem that you are describing. Well actually, only once and I believe it was due to a weak signal since only 1 bar was showing. Haven't had the problem since. I keep a close watch though.

My friend works for Verizon Wireless and both him and I have the v710. He got the software update on his phone and told me not to get it because it was actually making his phone run alot slower and it kept crashing. I know my phone sometimes resets itself if I'm on the mobile web or sending a text message. I still have the original software. The updated software may be the cause, or is probably the cause of your problems. Are any of you experiencing any other problems with the phone, other than the HFL?? Do you find accessing your phone book or other options is slower?? I got the V710 because of the bluetooth and when I finally get a TL I can use the HFL.

I am getting a TL in the next few months. I can get a Motorola V710...or by coughing up a couple hundred bucks in cancellation fees I can switch providors...I guess Cingular is the best one for reliable bluetooth choices? I'd rather not switch unless there will be a big advantage in doing so. Thoughts?

If you're happy with Verizon (I am) I would stick with them. I haven't had any problems with my V710 phone other than the lack of signal and battery strength displays which has been corrected by the firmware update. I really like the phone and in my area, Verizon's service is second to none. The way I see it is you can have flawless bluetooth connection but horrible phone service and what have you gained?

V710 compatibility

From these postings I gather the Motorla V710 is compatible with the TL. Last week I bought a V710 with the understanding that it was compatible. Today, while I was having normal service done, I asked the Acura dealer where I bought the car to "marry" the two. After checking the computer, and the service manager and his Bluetooth "specialist" told me that the V710 was not compatible. What am I missing?

Verizon recently changed the software in the V710 to make it compatible with TL. Acura is not done testing it yet so it is not on the Acura website yet. Hopefully it will be soon, but others have posted on other threads that it works pretty well so far.

Bluetooth with/without nav

Does having the nav system add to what the bluetooth system will do? If I don't get nav, what will I be missing besides maps and directions? I don't get lost much.

Acura may not have "officially" blessed the v710, but with the new firmware (1.40.0D), the v710 works just great with my '05 Acura TL.

Navi-equiped TL's can also autodial any POI (point of interest) in the navi's database. This means you can search for a place to eat, have the Navi system direct you there and while enroute, call the place to order/put your name on the list, etc. The navi database has a large number of phone numbers in it. Cool, but life can continue without it....

No it can't. I just came back from vacation & the combination of the HFL & GPS features is one of the biggest advancements in the history of driving! Saved our ass getting a hotel room in Baltimore when every room in the city was filled up due to the Yankee series! Without it, you are only getting part of the full TL experience.

Right you are. I was on a roadtrip when I got stuck in a driving rainstorm late at night in rural New Mexico. The rain was so bad everyone was pulling off the road as you literally could not see. Weather reports on the radio sounded bad and I knew available motel rooms in the area (which weren't many) would fill up fast as people would be stopping for the night to wait out the bad weather. While sitting on the shoulder of the road waiting for the downpour to let up, I located the nearest motel on the Navi, called via HFL and reserved a room before the other poor souls without TL's could do it. Definitely a lifesaver!

Just purchased a V710 and my S/W Version is 8700_01.40.0R I guess Motorolla keeps making changes. My phone linked up fine with my TL and shows the battery and antenna strength. Not sure if I have this issue. Will try tonight to see if it works both ways.

Does anyone know the latest S/W Version available for the V710? I thought it was 8700_01.40.0R, is that right?
