I wonder how your reception will be... if you got the Asian version, your new phone will only have one North American GSM band, 1900. All new phones sold by Cingular (soon to be ATT and Cingular) are all 850/1900.

Some people don't need 850mhz like me. I get solid 1900mhz where I am. The e398 that jatt is getting will be made from Singapore but I think its a straight English/Euro language phone because it is also distributed to European and few Asian countries. The asian countries however dig Nokia the most... actually if you don't have a Nokia phone then you're probably weird. haha.

The reason I ask about the Asian version is b/c on phonescoop's site they say there will be 2 versions. The North American version will have 850/1900/+ 1 of the other bands. The Asian version will have 900/1800/850... I wasn't talking about the English/Euro language on the phone.

Also, just b/c you get good reception in your home market doesn't mean you will when you travel... especially on Cingular and ATT who use both bands in various cities.

I've been to the west coast and beyond (hawaii, taiwan) with a world tri-band phone, no problems. NYC was not a problem either so its all good for me, I can still use my phone.

There is nothing wrong with tri-band in North America as long as 2 of the bands are 850 & 1900. If your phone only has 1900 and the 2 euro bands you probably still wouldn't have any probs b/c you are on T-Mobile. Try a 1900 only handset on ATT or Cingular and you would have run into problems in some of those cities. I know, you are going to say that is why you are on T-Mobile. However, coverage for ATT and Cingular is far superior to T-Mobile's when you using a 850/1900 handset.

Anyway, the whole point of my original post was to say that if you use this tri-band phone and it is not the North AMerican version, it will only have 1900 and the 2 euro bands. If you then try to put this phone on ATT or Cingular, you may have some reception probs, depending on what city you are in.

I understand your standpoint on the 850/1900 matter because you are a Cingular employee. Your job is to be proud of your employer and sell your service so I understand. Like I've said, I've been far west cost, islands, east coast, far east, etc etc and no problems with 1900mhz and its been solid. No need for 850mhz...that was used to cover up problem areas and penetrate the hard to reach spots where 1900mhz could not reach. I have been up and down california, up and down NY/NJ, all around Texas and wherever I need coverage I have it. So yay for 850mhz which is a good step but I don't need it.

I am not in sales. I am proud of my employer, but that has nothing to do with my post. You have taken this discussion in an entirely different direction. Again, my original point... the version of the phone that this person is probably getting will only have one NA band. If it will be used on ATT or Cingular, it will not work well. If used on T-Mobile it will be fine b/c they only have 1900... which is why for you it wouldn't make a difference.

mobilezero sounds awesome. Thanks for the suggestion. I don't have to come on the internet to flex my e-balls. Seems as though your senses have also escaped. I see your arguement here and somewhere along the line, you probably see mine. Your arguement consists of the West and East coasts which rely heavily on 850mhz....as for me, 850mhz is of no use AND through my travels over the past 7-8 years, I have had no issues with 1900mhz coverage which is what I'm trying to get at so your glasses probably escaped you too but its ok, there's always a bright one in every bunch. All apologies if I steered a bit away from the topic but don't take it personal, this is the internet and we're both adults now. We can leave the bickering to the republican and democratic supporters.

Agreed, I always enjoy a good sparring partner. Besides, nothing else to do when Jeanne is outside.
