I plan on doing something similar, but my car is a navi, and I want to use the factory screen. I thought I remembered someone here hacking the touchscreen for use on a PC, but I can't be sure.
CarPC's are powered best by DC-DC power supplies. Do a search on mp3car or google for M2-ATX or OPUS. I have the M2-ATX which is more than enough to power what I need (looks like ITL has the same from the pics). The PS gets 12V constant, ground and swithced 12V. When you turn the car on it "presses the power button" and when you shut it off, theres a jumper which can be placed in different configurations that determines how long before it will "press the power button" to shutdown the PC, then kill power to the PC all together. They also survive engine crank so if the PC is still on and you start the car again, it will not effect the PC. I also have my windows set to hibernate so it takes a mere 20-25 seconds from starting the car until I have music playing.

Also, pretty sure Roadrunner is only windows based? I use Centrafuse so correct me if I'm wrong.

screamin, here you go:
PSU: M2-ATX. Bootup takes about 30 seconds, which is pretty good for my setup.
OS: Windows XP SP2 (would prefer Linux, but there's a lack of good navi sw)
PSU has a startup/shutdown controller built in, which is wired to the ACC line of the ignition. Both when the ACC (accessories) power is turned on and off, a pulse to startup/shutdown is sent to the jumpers on the mobo for the power button (like pressing the button to turn pc on or off). Many times, I never even touch the computer during a drive. It botts up when I turn the car on, and shuts down when I get out, all without any user interaction.

you are right, search for met152 here on AZ.

ITL....

I live in Atlanta (cabbagetown). I really like the job you did, and am looking at eventually wanting to do something similar with my 06' non-Navi.

I've been in IT for 12 years, and am a MS/Vmware/Network engineer/architect, so im well versed on the computer side of things, but not as versed in the actual physical manufacturing and modifications of the vehicle dashboard itself.

Would you be up for meeting up for a few beers somewhere and talk about maybe assisting me with modding my TL?

beers on me

cheers.

very nice. you could route the wifi adapter into your center console. you will still get a good signal there and it will be hidden
