Unfortunately, since I switched speakers at the same time I removed the grill I can't say whether it made a difference sound wise. I can say that it was super easy and I don't mind the look of it at all. It would be even less conspicuous on the black door panels. If you're considering doing it, you might as well. I don't really see a downside.

I'm not sure that any additional bass gained from loading against the door panel would be a good thing. I wonder if the extra bass could possibly be the result of some sort of bandpass effect created by the airspace between the panel and the inner door skin. Whatever the cause, it seems unlikely that it would have a positive effect on your frequency response. It may also be contributing to some of the rattles in your door panel.

If you're looking to improve your midbass, I can't think of many options better than dropping $100 on a pair of Anarchys with 15mm of Klippel verified peak-to-peak linear throw. If I would have known they would fit in our doors I probably would've bought them a long time ago. This also means that at just 4mm deeper, it's quite possible to squeeze some of these bad boys in there:

Fixed so the grill cloth goes under the trim rings. Looks much better:

Picked up some push nuts from the hardware store. They hold much better than just the hot glue:

And I just sold my MS-8...dang. Next time I do audio, I'm going with a bit.one/bit.ten, 6to8 or possibly that Helix DSP. Looks nice.

I too have the id's with the same midrange issue. Wonder if the issue us the door opening that the speaker is in or the door trim piece that touches the factory speakers

I am not sure there really is an issue. Nothing touches. Just a bit different sound with anything over the top like a grill or anything.

Did you guys use the common ground bolt to ground the amp when mounting underneath the seats?

Also, for the sub wiring, will a 14 gauge speaker wire that's 10ft long be sufficient for the Pyle sub or will I need to get a bigger wire for that?

Yes to the common ground. I think you should be fine with that wire.

@pohljm Awesome build. Coming in here from this thread: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-a.../#post16481816

So I've got a 06 red TL as well and am finally going to be looking at upgrading the completely stock audio. I have a set of Infinity (I think) speakers (set of 6.5" and set of 6x9s) and an Alpine 4-channel amp (I think) as well as 2 15" subs and a HiFonics sub amp also.

SOme quick questions. I looked through your posts, I didn't see if you upgraded the head unit itself? The big thing that is commonly posted to this subforum is how to get bluetooth working with these TL radio/HUD since mid 2000s was before the time of bluetooth and our vehicles also didn't come with aux. I know some people get the double DIN bracket and there's a harness that you can buy that's plug and play, though I think that loses the steering wheel controls? Essentially, how do you connect your source music to the head unit?

Also, I was looking at replacing the front door panel speakers with the ones I have already and seems like the ones I have are too deep/thick and the stock speaker baffles/grill doesn't fit....might have to do some mods here? Haven't seen what size the rear deck speakers are, I think I have 6x9s.....

nist7 I am using the stock HU for my build. You can incorporate bluetooth connectivity using an iSimple with the stock HU. There are no 6x9 speakers in a TL.
It would be unusual not to be able to fit speakers in the door location. Mine are huge compared to stock and fit easily.
