Red face microphone booster for HFL transmitting?

For the past 4-6 months, people have complained that they can't hear me talk over the HFL. When I bought my TL almost 2 yrs ago, the only time I received complaints from "road noise" interfering with conversation was when I drove on the interstate. No complaints mentioned when simply driving 'round town. Now I always receive complaints that I can't be heard over the "car phone" so I've resorted to plugging into a wired headset with microphone after receiving a call. Someone mentioned to my husband (in passing) that they dealt with this problem by attaching a microphone to the interior ceiling of the car and having excellent results. He failed to find out the specifics, however. Does anyone know how to do that? Where to purchase such a microphone? 'Anyone else have this problem or have any idea the source of my problem? Does the HFL system wear out after a couple of years? I use a Motorola v700 phone that has perfect reception/transmission outside the car and with the headset so I don't think the problem is the phone. However... I do plan to trade in my phone next month when my 2 year contract with Verizon allows a trade w/o penalty. I'd appreciate any advice! I commute 100 miles/day and live in my TL!

There is a place in the NAV unit to adjust the microphone level, do a search on the forum about getting into the NAV diagnostics. There is a microphone level selection that you can turn up the gain on the overhead microphone in the car. Thats it, pretty straight forward. You may want to test it out with someone on the other end after you do it. Turn it up too much and it will pick up everything..

No NAV unit for microphone boosting

JERU, thanks for the suggestion... however, my TL doesn't have a NAV system. I bought it at the end of the year (off of the lot) w/o navigation and I've since purchased a GARMIN gps, instead.
So... any other suggestions????

888-528-7876 is the Acura hotline for dealing only with the HFL and bluetooth. Or you may go to Acura.com. One of these should be able to get you some info on turning up your microphone. If there is a way to get to it thru the Nav unit, then non-Nav units must have a way also. Any dealer may be able to help you out also. Hopefully you will track down a good answer without having to add anything...

Jeru -

I am having an issue with my caller experiencing poor voice quality so I got into the diags and found the mic level screen (under 'functional operation or something) , but the only active control is the 'return' button. Were you actually able to adjust sensitivity here?

Thanks

It may be a function of your phone, too. If nothing's changed with your HFL, it's possible a setting on the phone has changed. I don't know the specifics of your phone, but I've heard of some phones having a mic level adjustment.

I found that if you navigate to the 'mic level' diag screen and press the 'talk' button on the steering wheel the display says "recording" and the graph will respond like a sound meter when you speak. Not sure if anything is being calibrated here or if it is just a feedback diag. Interesting anyway.

I'm just curious... is the mic (and the adjustment) for the Navi system and for the HFL the same? It just seems to me that the two would be separate since they are separate electronic systems.

Since both systems use a same microphone, I am sure that the adjustment would pertain to both systems
