Massive Audio VK6 experiences?

Has anyone here tried using these up front? I'm pondering picking up a set from DIYMA. Would there be any depth issues? I know the more popular option seems to be the CK6, but I'm going to give these a try without adding an amp to power them.

I believe our factory speakers are 8ohm. I would assume our factory amp isn't too stable at 4ohm and wouldn't put out much anyways. I say keep saving a bit until you can deaden the door while you're in there. I don't see that being a big upgrade

Yea, I pondered that too. I believe actually our factory speakers are 2 ohm from everything I've seen, so putting these in would be slightly less of a load on the amp. But I figured SQ would go up a decent amount, which is more what I was going for.

I'm actually trying to limit the money I'm throwing at the car now, but I figured it might be nice to get a slightly better speaker in there. I thought about going the whole way with a 2 channel amp, components, and sound deadening, but the overall cost of that would be way more than I'm wanting to do, at least right now.

Whats funny is thru searching, I think I found IHC's original post about adding his first set of speakers, some 2 ohm Infinity 3 ways. He said absolutely to do speakers first and then decide if you still want to do an amp because he was hugely impressed with the upgrade he got from just speakers. Pretty sure his tastes have changed a bit since then...

Lol just a bit. You could probably sell the JL 500/1 and pick up a 4-channel and speakers for the same price as you sold it for. Spend a little on deadening and bam..done

So I'm guessing you're suggesting bridging 2 channels of the 4 channel amp for the sub, and running front components off of the other two? Or would a good 5 channel amp be a good idea? I don't think I'll ever both to amp the rear speakers, so maybe the 5 channel amp wouldnt be of much use to me actually.

Haha, I should stay off these forums, too many ideas...Between this and DIYMA, I could go broke.

Yeah the 5-channel would only really benefit you if you wanted to run active (either from the amp itself or if you picked up a processor).

You're correct also on the 4-channel suggestion. 2 channels bridged for the sub and run the other 2 for L/R components. Now that I look though that JL 500/1 isn't as much as I thought. You could probably sell it for about $150-200 and pick up a 4-ch like the ppi p900.4 for the same price NEW.

Haha, sold all your stuff...now replacing it with...different stuff! Gotta have stuff.

I went with the Uncald4 box to get trunk space back, which IMHO was definitely work it. The install guys were very wary of how small the box was for the 10", but after stuffing it with polyfill, they were very surprised at how good it sounded.

Ended up mounting the JL 500/1 to the floor of the back of the trunk and covering it with the all-season trunk mat. Not the greatest approach in the world, but I do like that it can't see it at all, and I hardly ever put anything back there anyway.

What I would like to do, however, is get one amp that fits under one of the front seats and use that to power everything. Then it would be entirely out of the way and sound great. That PPI you mentioned looks like the kind of thing that would do just that...

Do you know for sure that it would fit under our seats?

First, not sure if having that all-season/weather mat over the amp will make it overheat or not be able to dissipate heat as well...just a thought.

As far as what size fits under the seat...you need to PM "I hate cars" as he knows the dimensions to fit under each seat I believe.

I agree those side enclosures are great (uncald4 kinda lost my business though). They're just pricey, that's the only downfall. What I'm doing wont save quite as much trunk space as the side enclosure but it'll give me back 8" or so. Instead of the regular square or very deep sealed enclosures, I'll make/build one that spans the same length as the one for my 2 12's, but isn't deep at all due to this. Not that tall either.

You're right wondering about the heat, but I haven't had any issues with that at all. I also have my gain way down, but the amp certainly isnt getting hot. I was a little concerned at first, but it hasn't proven to be a problem.

And I know, I saw everything that happened in that Uncald4 thread, things got a little heated/ugly. But I ended up getting mine for a good price (good amount cheaper than his sale price) and at that price point the space savings became worth it. And I gotta say, my 10W6 pounds in that enclosure.

And thanks, I'll PM IHC to get some info on what fits under the seats.
