Maintenance Minder Service Code changed?
Hi I was wondering if anyone had seen this problem and whether it's anything I need to look out for but the code that displays for Maintenance Minder changed without me resetting it. It's been B12 for the last 4 weeks but since yesterday the code is now B1. What happened to 2 (engine air and cabin air filter replacement)? So do I change the air filters or not...

when was the last time the filters were changed?? and how much oil life do you have?
i've only let my MID go <10% service due now maybe a couple of times, other times when it gets to <15% service due now...i try to get to it.
if the filters haven't been changed in a while...just change them. it's not that difficult. or you can just check them, if they gross and dirty...change them.

damn your filters are way overdue. i've never had the MID take a code away while it was nagging me. if you make note of the code at the initial flash of being due, then do those maintenance items. i know the car MID will reset after a certain amount of time/mileage once it hits the "overdue" point (at least i think it does). it's the first i've heard the MID takes a code away while it's nagging.
i've had the 2 flash on my TL twice since i've owned it new. once around 25k miles and the 2nd time around 50k miles. i'm at 57k right now.

The MID is just a guesstimate. If you're not sure if the filters need to be changed, pull them out and look at them. I've found that the cabin filters need to be changed 2-3x more often than the engine filters but that's about right considering the engine uses less air on average than the HVAC puts out and mine is always on even if it's just the blower. This obviously depends on your usage. I use the activated charcoal and baking soda filters which help a little. The inside just smells a little fresher. After a year they're usually nasty and full of what looks like a handful of sand and leaves. A year is about when I start to notice there's not as much air output especially on the higher settings but the air around here is very dirty.
The only downside to an overdue engine air filter is less full throttle power and it has to be really dirty to affect power. MPG does not change. Assuming the filter is of high quality like the factory filter, it will filter better the more it ages. Mine is over 3 years old. I checked it when I did the valve adjustment 3,000 miles ago and it was fine. I checked the gasket and it's still soft and not falling apart so it's possible this filter will be upwards of 6 years old before it gets replaced again.
