LoJack ??

I just put down money for a 07 NBP TL-S and was wanting to know you guys opinion on LoJack. Do any of you have it installed and think it's worth it?

I'm 50/50 towards purchasing it since I do not have a garage.

Thanks,

George

George,

Had LoJack installed on my 08 TL when I bought it new and at that time it was worth it. I received a discount on my insurance and it does give me some piece of mind, although as others have said on this forum, if someone wants to steal your wheels they'll do it. So to answer your question, to me it is worth it. ...just my two cents.

Is it worth it to YOU to get your car back if it's stolen? If so... then I would get LoJack. (If you live in a quiet neighborhood and know you'll never drive thru questionable parts of town, it may not be worth the expense).

Any car can be stolen if the thief wants it bad enough...

Knowing I have LoJack on my 07 TL helps me sleep at night knowing the thieves will get caught. The reason LoJack works is because there are no decals and/or advertisement that the car is protected by LoJack.

Also works to your advantage if you are ever carjacked at gunpoint.... (let the carjacker take the car and let the police handle it)

Sorry in advance for the thread revival but I'm looking for advice on a particular situation regarding Lojack.

My friend has a 2005 TL that he purchased in May 2009. The previous owner had a Boomerang/Lojack system installed but was deactivated. He contacted Boomerang/Lojack in June 2009 to have it reactivated, and has been paying about 18$/month for the service since the activation date.

In November 2012, he received an offer from Lojack for their new system, at a cost of 449$ + tax installed, which is 50% off the regular price because he is already a Lojack customer. The other benefit of the new system is that he would no longer have to pay the monthly charge that he is paying with the current system. Given the fact that he has already paid close to 800$ in fees for the current system plus the additional cost of installing the new one, he is wondering if he should:

a) Take the offer from Lojack on their new system
b) Keep the current system and continue to pay the monthly fee until he decides to sell the car (maybe in the next 1-2 years)
c) Cancel the service altogether, given the fact that the car is almost 8 years old and not sure if it's still worth it to pay for the service.

He says that having the Lojack reduces his insurance cost by about 10%. I personally told him that it's no longer worth paying for Lojack service, but I wanted to get other's thoughts on this situation.

Let me know what you guys think he should do.

how often are TLs stolen? seems like people steal TL-S wheels more than anything else.

i was never interested in lojack because i heard that the cops can disable your vehicle whenever they want, and if i ever find myself involved in a high speed chase...i'm gonna need all the help i can get.

If you are that worried about your car being stolen, you might want to consider using the lojack money on a down payment and move to a new part of town.

Just like the headlight assemblies were stolen on the 2G TL more than anything else.
In fact, they've always been the #1 insurance claim on 2G TL's.

Regarding LoJack, I know this may seem a little paranoid to some, but announcing your car has it in a public forum may not necessarily be the smartest thing to do. You never know who's lurking around here, including car thieves. And in this day and age, ya can't leave ANYTHING to chance.

Happy New Year Everyone !

LOL@Shark!

Thanks for the replies guys! I showed them to my friend and he seems a little more inclined to part with the service. Not that I have anything against LoJack, I just don't think it's worth it on an 8-year old bone stock TL, especially since they're asking him to pay another $449 for the new system. 3G TLs are a dime a dozen. If it gets stolen, take the insurance money to buy another.

He says he'll decide by this weekend but will most likely cancel it.

Me being in phx ,az theft if pretty big here so I purchased LoJack in my TLS it does relax me a lot more always got a discount on my insurance so with time it will pay for itself on the savings from insurance so was an all around good deal in my opinion. My previous happening always seem to suck it always felt like when I would purchase some kind of insurance or protection plans in any type of purchase nothing would go wrong but when I would not get any my items would break, stolen etc.. Lol
