Line out converter question

Is it possible for a line out converter to go bad and send a higher/stronger signal to the amp and cause the amp to cut out?

Possibly..but it may be your amp going out too.. I just went thru this..thought my AudioControl lc6i was going out.

Symptoms of my amp: Amp cuts out, speakers sometimes turn on ..sometimes require volume to be turned up to even hear anything. Faint speaker level from line out converter.

Here are the steps I took to troubleshoot:

1. Check to make sure all your wiring is secured
2. Check to make sure NO wires are touching either at your line out converter or at the amp. You may also want to check to make sure none of your wires are touching the chassis of the car (metal contact).
3.if you have a 2nd amp try testing it on all speakers of your car to rule out amp.

Thank you for your reply. I have double checked all the wiring and even ruled out the amp by hooking it up to another headunit. I was looking into buying the audio control lc6i but i dont want to spend over $100 and have the same problem. How is the lc6i, was it worth getting?

It is very easy for them to go bad...especially cheaper ones.

Which one do you have?

Take it back and get another one.

Are you using it on the sub channel, or the others? If on the sub channel, then you will need to get one that can handle the wattage.

Does your line out converter have a 12v power?

It was definitely worth buying the lc6i..it also comes with an auxiliary input so I can use my phone or ipod. As far as setup..it was trial and error to get the right lines fed into the right inputs..There is also a 'summing' mechanism that will take 4 inputs and utilize them across two RCA outputs. It is great paired with the right amp. If cost is an issue you can usually find an LC6 (without aux) for 50-75$ used.

You need a LOC that can handle over 30 watts.

You don't need to signal sum or a high end unit for that to work.

Before you scrap the LOC that you have, give RF an email or call. Some of their amps want the negative to be from the ground and not from the speaker wire when using a LOC.

I Have a LOC and it works pretty good but i was told there is a audio converter you can buy so the sound is a bit better a bit closer to the sound of an aftermarket deck or pretty close...anyone know of it?

you can also look at a cache cloc+d it is powered loc and a line driver as well to keep your amp from working so hard. It is a nice unit and used to install them when i was an installer.

Im going to use this same amp but bridged to power one 12" rockford PS3. Im wondering how did you wire the single sub channel to the LOC that has two input channels. and did you use a technical method to adjust the LOC gain or did you set it by ear?

I connected both of the inputs on the LOC together and then connected it to the subwoofer output on the car as for adjustment i just went by ear.
