saw that when I was looking for a camera.

The only thing stopped me was they don't have one in black. Or else I'd hit it.

I think there's a good chance it would not fit. The only frame I could get to fit on the back of my TL was a $3.00 Pep Boys plain, thin black plastic one. There is very little clearance above the license plate.

It looks like it's the same license plate camera that www.avelectronic.com sells for $250. It definitely fits our cars because on the avelectronic website they have on installed on a 3G TL. Check their installed gallery. Nice Find.

I'll take some pics tomorrow. I bought it off eBay, I don't remember the exact amount, but I think I paid around $150. The quality is about the same as the stock camera on my '06 Odyssey. I had to drill a hole behind the frame for the wire. The frame is already wired with an RCA plug for video, so the hole had to be big enough for it.

Nice!!
Did you need any extra unit such as NaviNTVtoGo?
Or is it plug and play to the Navi DVDROM and simply wire to the back up light?

Let me know if it comes with everything you need.

Thanks!

You need a nav to dvd unit to be able to use the camera as a video source.

I like the frame as an option, I would possible paint it black/gunmetal so it doesnt hit the eyes like that, keep it stealth a bit.

Where did the wiring go through?

I don't know if the camera is waterproof, but I think it would be. You can check the specs on the various sites.

I like the chrome frame as it goes really well with the SSM.

I used Dom's video unit for the video input. Got it during a group buy.

I didn't take any pics during the install, but the wiring was fairly straightforward. I ran the wire along the factory loom in the trunk lid and up the drivers side to the front. You do have to remove the panel covering the trunk lid to get the wiring. There are a few other posts that have this detailed, so you should be able to find directions.

The reverse light wire is easily accessed in the kick panel and I grounded it nearby to a factory ground.

I'll take some night pics later tonight.

Just curious guys...
Can you configure DOMS unit to "override" the video output so when you put the car in reverse, the camera view comes on the screen automatically?

That's a pretty good night shot. The camera must be very sensitive. Since you can't see your bumper for reference have you figured out how close your bumer is to objects that approach the bottom of your screen ?

wait wait wait, so:
1) the video turns on automatically when you go into reverse?
2) any exstra units to buy to get this up and running?
3) is there anyway you can do this without drilling a hole? (i really like something non destructive)

thx

i too would be worried about that and wonder if it could easily be powder coated black. You can get security bolts to hold it on instead of using regular bolts.

edit: i just saw a description of it that once u install the bolts u can't take them out unless you take it out from the inside......this i don't understand and would like more info about.....

i would be down for a group buy of this

I used the stock license plate screws to attach the frame. I'm not worried about it being stolen. If someone really wanted it they would have to cut off the wiring harness as well. The unit comes with security nuts and bolts, but it was just easier to use the stock screws.

triggle:
I've been thinking about pointing the camera a little further down so I could see the bumper, but I haven't really needed it. I mainly use the camera to see if there's something in the blind spot.

amazonpit:
1) Yes
2) Yes, I used Dom's nav unit.
3) I doubt it, you have to get the wire into the car somehow.

Looks like there's a group buy for Dom's unit happening now.

awsome find man, I am deff going to try this one. I like it a lot. The cam is smaller too so nothing too bulky on the top of the plate.

I just wonder what that box is for? and the qaulity of the image, but for $139 I am willing to be the test subject

Let me know please, I also like the "look" of the black one better, but the chrome looks like it may have a better quality camera attached to it. The pictures posted in this thread look very nice quality actually.

My other concern, and I would suggest you email / contact the seller before you buy it, is whether or not it's a reverse image camers (usually it should say).

I would ask for more detailed specs so we can compare the two.

I'd appreciate any additional feedback/input you learn and I am signed up for the Dom Groupbuy and don't yet have a camera, and am leaning towards one of these 2 options.
