Latest Orange Disc
Anyone know what the latest orange disc is or when the new update is coming out? My wife wants to buy me the disc for my birthday but I am hesitant because the acuranavi site shows the 3.90 as the latest. I thought the 3.9 disc came out last year? Anyways I am not sure whether to order this now or hold out for a month or so.
Perhaps someone who has kept up with the updates more than me can help me out, thanks in advance.

When you get it can you let us know how much better the disc is compared to 3.5 and 3.6??

I just did my non navi to navi conversion and when i searched for things it was sending me to places in california when i know a place is up my block too...i thought maybe it was because i did something wrong with my conversion but now i know it might be the disc.

seriously though I hope this new disc helps. Good to know I wasn't the only one experiencing this rediculousness. Its embarassing when you have people in the car and its telling you the closest location is 2000 miles away.

It's not the disk that's the problem. It's the way the search function was written for this version of the navi software. I believe it was improved in later versions. If you have the orange disk, the search function is very particular about how you spell the name of a place or how it is categorized. For instance Best Buy might have several listings under Best Buy, Best Buy, Inc. or some other form of the name. If you don't know exactly have to refer to the ones by your location then you will get results across the country. This is just unfortunately the way it is. I usually never use that feature and navigate based on an address instead. Sometimes you don't have an address or anyway to get one and in those instances I have about a 20% chance of actually finding the place using the search function.

Search with "Places," "Category" and then "Name" or "Search by Distance"
A search using "Places," "Category" and then "Name" or "Search by Distance" usually works best when you can't enter a phone number.
Oh, and I'm using version 3.80.
Try "Wal-mart"-- a combination of corporate renaming and POI data entry mistakes does make searches more difficult.

i think i might end up having to buy the new disc as well. i tried a 3.7 today and it was the same thing, i mean it was a little more accurate but still not enough being that its going to be 2010 in 2 months, might as well get the 3.9 and then deal with that one as the years go on.

If the number is in the system that is ...........
True, the searching software algorithms for the '04/5/6 Navi are in GRAVE need of improvement. Any system that tells me "Make U-Turn, Destination Is On The Left" after pressing [Go Home] when you're right in front of your address is in serious need of fixing.
As for the price of the update, $185 PLUS shipping, tax, AND handling is highway robbery. If they used their heads, that is, the one on top instead of the one in their crotch and priced it at $99.95, they'd be selling at least twice as many discs. As I've stated in other threads on this subject, I'll make worth the while of anyone who can figure out how to SUCCESSFULLY copy the orange disc.

OK so i just received my 3.9 disc today and i have to say its ALOT better than the 3.6 disc i was using. THere are so many updated Points on Interest on this DVD, searching by phone number is better because of the update database, ATMs, Gas Stations and food icons actually show up on the map in my area.
WHen i go to search for food or stores around me it actually finds things around me instead of sending me to Pennsylvania or California. Everything works alot better now, and for some reason i see that route calculation is alot faster now and recalculation moves alot faster as well.
New shopping plazas and restaurants that opened within the last year or two are now showing up on the map. everything is completely updated for the NYC area at least, which is what i needed the most. It is definitly recommended if you live in NY and are still using 3.6 or lower, you should consider this upgrade if you use the navigation funcation alot.
Now im attempting to hack the navi files. hopefully i can get it to work. Im also working on trying to copy the disc to save myself from damaging mine. ive seen some people here said they copied the navi disc so i will give it a try, dont know how true it is though.

I have the 3.7 version and its not that great.I was looking for an icecream place called Fentons in Oakland and the nav sent me to Fentons something in Kansas. You have to actually spell it correctly with an apostrophy (Fenton's).I even entered the city name first and it seems to send me other parts of the states. I am in for the update.

if anyone has version 3.8 or 3.9 and they want to do the nav hacks for the trip computer, a/c and OK bypass its in my thread here:
https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-audio-bluetooth-electronics-navigation-94/3-9-navi-hack-752774/
i take no credit for the file whatsoever, another Azine user here posted them a long time ago and no one seems to be able to find them for 3.8 or 3.9 so i have decided to make a thread and post them for us to use. I have tested these files on 3.9 and they work perfectly.

I should be getting mine this week. After reading what you wrote I can't wait now!

If anyone has any upgraded discs beyond 2006, I would consider purchasing them at the right price. I want to feel like I am driving on a freeway rather than flying a car like my nav says I am.

Make it so
Same goes for me too. Knowing me, though, I'll probably just buy the orange disc and get ripped off. Bleh.
One question, though- is the white disc more recent than the orange disc? I see that the White disc is for 2010 (according to some posts here), but the latest I can see on the NAVTEC website is orange (2009, from two months ago). If I'm gonna shell out $200 shipped for this disc, I might as well get the most recent....
Unless it's a preorder. If that's the case, since 2010 hasn't happened yet, then screw that.

Make it so
As far as I can see, my vehicle has had NO nav updates since it was originally purchased in 2004. This disc I would purchase would be my first.
And maybe I'm just missing something, but that last sentence made no sense...

similar situation for me, I am looking for last year's update because there nothing new for my area in this year. By any chance anyone have one for sale or know somewhere i can buy it at a discount?
