Laser Radar in New York City?

I have an Escort 8500 X50 and recently encountered a laser bogey while driving on a highway in the Bronx. Traffic wasn't moving very fast, maybe 30-40 mph in both directions. Also, I didn't see any marked police cars.

I was wondering if anyone has had laser encounters in New York City. Also, does anyone know if laser detectors be set off by laser jamming equipment?

Thanks
Mike

I haven't heard of NYC cops using laser radar yet but I'll ask around as I know more than a couple.

I wonder if the laser cruise control on some higher up cars (like my minivan) will cause a false alert on laser radar detectors?

Mike - I occasionally got Laser indications in certain spots on the highway. Eventually, I determined that these were false alerts - same general location, same time of day, heading in the same direction on the freeway. It seemed to occur mostly during the sunrise I was heading for on the road. I guess the light frequencies were just right to fool the detector.

I usually have Laser turned off now.

There is a specific type of American SUV (I can't recall, maybe Chevy) that the tail lights cause a false laser alert every time.

Thanks for the responses. I was confused because I didn't think anything other than laser radar would set off the detector. Just wanted to make sure that my detector wasn't broken.

Thanks
Mike
