I've installed a dvd player but...

...when my key is in the first position, the nav screen is mostly black but i can barely make out the navigation, it's blurred in the background and the images move vertically like a busted tv. In the second key position everything is fine, nav works, and the dvd's play fine (dom's unit/blitzsafe/clarion 6disc dvd changer). Is this normal or a wiring issue? Anybody know, before i take apart my car again (not fun).

Sounds like Doms isn't getting power in the 1st key position. Where did you power dom's from?

If you tap the center cig adapter/power outlet or use a mini add-a-circuit to fuse box location #32, you should be fine.

I wired the dom's box off the trunk light because it was close, and always has power running to it. I guess it's not enough or some volt issue. I don't want to have to take apart the whole car again to get to the fuse box. Is there anywhere else in the back of the trunk i could use as a power source?

You can tap into the navi harness at the back of Navi for power. Search on here for people who have done it to find out the right wire. Some people say it is fine, others don't recommend it at all.

Personally I ran a line from the fusebox and it is very easy. It took me less than 15 minutes to do it. You only have to remove the seat bottom (which is 1 bolt and to clips) and pull out the door weatherstrips.

But it is up to you.

The trunk light is always on?! I don't think so.

I agree to what brian said above.

He probably tapped the hot side of the trunk light which always has power, unless the switched power is coming all the way from up front. I don't know how the trunk light is wired.

Would probably work fine if on the right side of the actuator/switch.

I'm one of the guys that wired Doms unit off the navi harness. Utilized a 3 amp fuse and diode circuit. No issues. All other power comes from the cig lighter circuit.

Hey can you explain how you wired in to the nav unit? I've read other posts and people say they are having trouble but you seem to have got it right. Also what's a diode circuit?

If I remember correctly the power wire within the navi bundle was orange and white. (orange with white stripe or white with orange strip etc.). Check out the other install threads involving Dom's unit, its mentioned there as well. I just tapped into that lead and powered just Dom's unit, not the DVD player, not the backup camera,,, just Dom's unit.

One reason I did this was due to Dom's unit requiring power at all times in order to have a display upfront etc.. What better than the Navi that will be on every time I want Dom's unit on... It draws very little thus experience told me I shouldn't have any issues. Just to be safe, within the tap off of this orange/white lead, I installed a diode and 3 amp fuse. I called it a "diode circuit" because,,, well its a circuit with a diode... :-) Anyway, you may already know but a diode only allows current to flow through in one direction. Thus, in the event something goes strange with Dom's unit the 3 amp fuse would blow quick and anything causing a strange spike going towards the Navi would be stopped by the diode.

The other "main" reason is, I did not purchase the $100 PnP harness for Dom's unit. I also built my own "Aux in" for the sterio audio that taps into the XM. Bottom line, I have enough solder joints, shrink wrap, fancy wire looms and relay enclosures not to mention RCA jacks/wires packaged within that corner of my TL,,,,, an issue with my Navi/warranty from tapping the power lead was the least of my concerns. If something goes awry I am the only one to blame - warranty or not.. I've done enough tinkering with cars that it just doesn't phase me anymore..

Well,, Way more than you needed to read but I typed all that due to my next statement:... If you did purchased the PnP and aren't completely sure of your abilities and/or are concerned with possible future warranty issues,,,,,, I would run power from the center console. This way if your navi decides to crap you can pull all of your install and head to the dealer without possibly being turned down for warranty considerations.

Seriously, remove 4 screws and two wiring plugs and the aft portion of the center console slides back and out. One of the two wire plugs you removed goes to the cigarette lighter. It's a perfect place to tap power off of for all of your audio/video needs. Mentioned before, the bottom cushion of the rear seat takes less than two minutes to have out.. One bolt on the pass side and you pinch a latch under the front of each side cushion and your done. Use an older metal wire hanger and feed your wires from the seat area under the carpet to the "under the center console" area. (I installed another 3amp fuse here for my DVD player and audio "Aux-In" relays).
You can now easily get your wire(s) up and behind the back cushion and into the passenger side of the trunk. For ground, their is a nice bundle right above the nav unit bolted to the body structure - perfect location.

The only other wiring I did was a remote eye/IR for the remote control and a circuit up to the dash for my 3 position (On-off-On) switch. It's mounted in the extra space to the right of the VSA/mirror controls. Its a nicely labeled rocker switch mounted on the painted black plug to look just like the large VSA switch. The upper position results in the rear camera view to be always on the screen. The center position is off or strictly stock configuration. The down position is the DVD video. The rear camera however still takes precedence whenever your in reverse. In order for me to use this form of a single rocker switch, I utilized a relay circuit to take the place of the small "video" switch that came with Dom's unit.

And I continue to ramble on..... What was your question again???

PM me, like many others, I would be glad to help out where I can.

I ended up running a power wire to the fusebox. I couldn't find a mini add-a-circuit at the few shops i checked (anybody know where to buy one of these), so i just kinda attached the (inline fused) wire to the fuse #32 and pushed it in and the nav/dvd works now on the first key turn. Thanks for the help once again guys!
