iSimple - No 'XM' option at all
This may sound completely absurd, and I'm ashamed to say, but I installed a iSimple (ISIM71?) last year and it never worked.
And quite frankly it was a whore to install and I haven't felt like taking the damn console out to redo the job. But I thought I would post up and see what you all say.
I mean if I didn't plug that harness in all the way it's gotta be just barely not in. So all I need is some good leverage. Can you get to there from the passenger side?

- When I switch from FM/AM to XM the radio does nothing. Actually it's like XM isn't there at all. FM->XM button just keeps you on FM.

It's actually the ISIM73 iSimple Gateway. I've crawled under the dash and verified that everything is good on the iSimple itself. I guess I just didn't plug in the main harness completely?!?!
I remember once hearing a good way to install this without removing the console. Anyone remember?

Ran into this problem with my 07 TL-S and it was so frustrating. I called Isimple about the problem and the guy basically said "you got the wrong model" and he wasn't sure what the right one was! Horrible customer service so i got rid of it.
Wow, I just bought an iSIM71 for 30 bucks brand new from a local.
It better work!
The iSIM71 comes with the Honda/Acura and Toyota/Lexus harness, and it even states the TL as compatible.

Yea I mean I didn't buy the wrong model. I think I just didn't snap the main harness on the back on the radio in.

You know I was thinking of getting the isimple but now I have my doubts. I hear people say install was easy and it works fine and others say it was a bitch to install and have problems with it. Knowing me, it would be a bitch to install and I would have problems with it. I am going to look more into the bluetooth streaming option.

If I remember correctly, I only had to pull the drivers side trim piece off to access the screws that hold the side cover on. From there I could access the harness. It was tight, and I probably cut up my hand on the metal, but I got mine in without pulling the deck.
I had problems getting it to connect. I had to upgrade the firmware. But that could be due to new phone software.

smh... months later and im having the same problem. i picked up a used ishd571 and after the install i have no option for XM. if i press the disc button itll go to cd. if i press am/fm button itll go to am/fm... however when i press the xm... no dice
any help would be appreciated and yes im using the search button... not seeing many people with my issue. oh and yes when the ipod is conected it charges so i know its getting power. i even did a reset on the box like 3 times. also did an firmware update.
frustrating.. yes it is
^well i haven't even attempted to fix it.
my apple composite cable will still play music through my iphone/ipod but i can't scroll with the steering wheel controls and/or see the text on my nav display and all that good stuff. i have to manually shuffle with my iphone and that's just not safe while driving.

I had a very similar problem where after the install it was like it was not connected and not being recognized. I had to open up the iSimple module and hard reset it. There were instructions regarding this with the unit. after I did that it has worked beautifully ever since.
Read through the manual and it stated that the dip switch #2 should be switched on (down). Reinstalled it and (almost) everything worked fine.
Only problem I'm having is that the steering wheel controls do something really friggin annoying: the CH up & down buttons don't change the track being played but the Repeat settings on my iPhone. WTF?!
I'm running into the same issue. Sometimes when I start the car I will be able to use my XM button to get to the Aux1 or iPod mode. Other times I turn the car on and get a blank display. This just started happening in December.

Lol I'm bumping this thread. I pulled this unit over the weekend and finally, after getting to work and using the single only PC in my life, I updated the firmware. I'm not entirely sure as I wasn't paying full attention but I believe it had a 3 series number to start and an 8 series to finish. So I quit behind on the firmware.
Anyway, that all went fine. Get it in the car and still absolutely nothing. No charge on the iPod Nano, no XM. If I plug the OE XM plug back in it works fine.
I also did the short circuit hard reset and I attempted to switch pins like they say can work on their website. Nada.
Probably going to give them a call today and thought I'd bump my old thread.

did you cycle through the options to see if you have any feedback? You should see Aux 1, Aux 2, Ipod and XM when you cycle through.
I would check the switches. Have you tried different devices?(iphone, ipod touch)

I've tried i4s, i5s with adapters, and an iPod Nano. Nothing.
No options at all. If I hit the XM button it literally does nothing. If the real XM plug is plugged in XM works just fine.

I dont know a better way to ask this but do you know how to cycle through the options as far as aux 1, aux 2, ipod and xm goes?
edit: i think im misunderstanding your op.
all of my dip switches are up.

All my dips are off, as instructed. Yep I know how to switch once in the XM menu. But I have no XM menu at all. The button does nothing.
Thanks for the help though man!

Has anyone been able to solve the missing XM issue?
I just installed the iSimple ISHD651 for my 2006 TL (with NAVI) and am running into this issue. No matter what I do, I can't get the unit to work. I'm on the verge of returning the unit.
Some things to note during my install/troubleshooting:
- When I switch from FM/AM to XM the radio does nothing. Actually it's like XM isn't there at all. FM->XM button just keeps you on FM. (just like maharajamd mentioned)
- I've tried hitting the reset switch many times with no success.
- When the car is off, all 3 LED colors(red, yellow, green) on the iSimple device are on, and the iSimple device can get power because I am able to charge my phone via the USB port. However, when I turn the car on, my phone stops charging. At the moment I turn on the car, only the GREEN LED stays on for some time(maybe ~15 seconds), then all LEDs turn off as if power to the device gets cut off or something.
- The firmware on the label of the unit is "Connect_187a.45d", which is the latest available from the site (http://www.pac-audio.com/Firmware/connect/index.html)

You need to do a hard reset. Open up unit and short out the larger capacitor in the group. That always works for me when that happens. If you replace your battery you may need to do this. You can get detailed instructions from tech support.
What iSimple device do you have? And are you referring to this reset procedure?
http://www.pac-audio.com/PACProductD...xaux_reset.pdf
If so, for the new ISHD651 (Connect) device that I have, they added a reset cable/button to avoid having to open the unit to perform the procedure. I tried resetting using the button many times but it didn't fix it.
I have another new unit (ISHD651) coming in the mail. I'll update on what happens with that one once it arrives.
I can say that if the XM unit is not plugged into the headunit it will not allow you to go to the XM option at all.
I was going to delete my XM radio by removing it from the trunk, but with it disconnected I could not get to XM at all on the radio even though the harness was still plugged into it.
Did you make sure that the OEM XM connector is also plugged into the harness for the iSimple?
One connector goes to the OEM cable that goes back to the XM radio, one connector goes into the headunit and a third goes onto the iSimple.

I appreciate the suggestion though!
With this new unit, it worked right out of the box. I did not see the missing XM issue at all.
So I guess for anyone that is still seeing the issue, you can try out pohljm's capacitor discharge method to see if it will fix the problem or not.
Fix for isimple
Basically what I'm asking is with no XM option at all, did I simply not plug a harness in all the way? The white tab switches in the wrong position? Is there an easier way to get your hands behind the radio?
