Ipod Touch 2G integration questions
Ipod Touch 2G integration questions
OK folks after 2 days now of going through all the searches, I am blind. I want to know a couple of simple things and hopefully the experts can help me here in this thread. I give up with searching for info I can't seem to get definitive answers for elsewhere. I appreciate you all in advance!!
I just got a new Ipod Touch 2G 32GB. I want to integrate it with my 2004TL. I would prefer to go the DICE/Peripheral/USASpec route rather than a tape deck adapter or an FM transmitter.
I think I understand the issues. The USAspec works, but you have to have the new charger cable and you cant use hybrid mode. It has no text support.
The R4 silverline seems to have features missing if you use a current gen ipod with it, but no one has addressed the Ipod Touch 2g specifically.
I know nothing about the peripheral device. Can someone clue me in?
Which is the best choice? I have no NAV system.
Does someone have a photo of any of these things working on a non-navi TL? I'd like to see what text is displayed for the peripheral and the Dice units.
Thanks again!

I just purchased the Dice kit (R4 silverline) and the new ones are shipping with 5 volt charging for the iPhone so the iPod touch shouldn't be a problem. www.diceelectronics.com says that it will support the iPod touch, 2nd gen, 8, 16, and 32GB models. I am installing mine this weekend so I can tell you first hand in a few days.

nice, looks like you've done your homework.
i can only comment on the usaspec since that's what i have. you are correct in that you have to use hybrid mode and it has no text support, but just for further clarification, all the new usaspec units come with the new cable. you will not need to pay extra for the new cable to charge your 2g touch. only the existing users will need to buy/upgrade the cable if they recently bought a 3g iphone, 4g nano, or 2g touch.
hope this helps. good luck with the decision.

Try here for install information and pictures (some with nav and some without): https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-audio-bluetooth-electronics-navigation-94/i-160-usa-spec-install-633080/

I have just installed the peripheral PXAMG -- text, great digital sound quality, ease of use... what can I saw, I've only used now my PXAMG, but compared to what i've read about the flaws of the other products, it looks like this is a slam dunk.
See my thread regarding install, further details.

Peter - can you post a pic of the text on the non-navi display?
I am thinking of just going with the dice. My biggest concern is making sure it works with the 2nd gen ipod touch.
A guy on ebay who claims to be an authorized dice dealer says his kits work with the new ipod.

Hi Billycuth,
I'll try to snap a pic tomorrow, but to be honest, the text is IDENTICAL to the XM text (if you have XM) .. you can hit display serially and it'll display song time (1:45 for example), Song Artist, Song title, Song Album, then back to time. It's sweet. You can also search by all songs, playlists in your ipod, song titles, artists, albums .. i mean, pretty much everything you can do on your ipod, you can do with your steering wheel, the seek buttons, the toggle knobs on the Acura... i'm in ipod/automotive heaven today.
ALso, all XM functionality and TEXT is preserved --
Don't know why anyone would go with something other than Peripheral at this point (for non-navi and non 3g Iphone), it's perfect digital audio transport without any compromises.

I have no need for sat radio at this point. If I do, then I will worry about it, but I have no need for it now. Thanks for the info... The Dice cost me $129 and it does everything yours does except maintain Sat radio. How much did you spend on the peripheral?
bought and installed the Dice. Very happy with the results. I wish I could control the ipod both through the ipod itself AND the steering wheel controls, but it's not a big deal. Text readout works perfectly and I've gotten used to the different modes. I can say I recommend the Dice.
I am getting song titles onthe screen -- they look just like XM song titles... i hit "DISP" and I get the TITLE, hit it again, I get the ARTIST, hit it again, I get the duration the song has been playing for so far.. hit it again it says "Channel 001".. hit it once more i get "IPOD" .. it's perfect.
It does NOT scroll the text, so you'll get cut off once it uses all the txt on my screen.. no big deal.. most artists and song titles fit within the screen...
sorry the pics are taking so long...

my dice has worked flawlessly now for almost a year, and all of a sudden yesterday I stop getting sound. I am using an ipod touch 2G version 3.0 but I have been since 3.0 came out with no issues. Anyone have problems? Find a resolution? I sent dice a ticket as well but figured I would check in here...
