iPod link for <$10 (with pics)
iPod link for <$10 (with pics)
Hello, I'm new to this forum but wanted to share my simple iPod link.
After reading how limited (and expensive w/ hw + install) current iPod links appear to be, I bought a $6 cable at RS and some velcro. If my '07 TL could fully integrate the iPod visuals & controls into the HUD, I would have made a different decision. But until I can see and touch the iPod "wheel" on my Nav screen, here's what I plan to live with:

A few notes:
1) I can remove the iPod in 2 secs and put it in the center console (or take w/ me) to thwart would-be thieves.
2) I can lift the unit easily to change tracks since it's right next to me. Since I have a six foot cable that is coiled in the center console, I can do this without taking my eyes off the road.
3) Since I have a Nano, battery life is about 20 hours, which is plenty for any roadtrip. I carry an extra AC charger in the glove (from my original Mini which died recently) just so I have it nearby.
4) Sound quality through the AUX jack is amazing....I've got most of my tracks sampled at 192 kbps (using AAC encoding) and I can't believe how good it sounds.
The cons are obvious: no power to the iPod and nothing on the HUD. But for $10, it works great and doesn't look too bad either.
Final note and disclaimer: Never take your eyes off the road. If implemented improperly, this solution may result in a safety hazard. I will not be responsible for misuse of this information. Use at your own risk. Drive safe, but with good tunes.

Aux cable + iPod case + velcro = nice setup.
I would prefer one of these retractable cables though:
Stereo 3.5mm Digital Audio Cable, Made for iPod

Stereo 3.5mm, M-M
This way, its easy to keep your cable concealed when its not in use. More details from the ZIP-LINQ website.
