iPhone 3G pairing problem

iPhone 3G pairing problem
I'm trying to pair my iPhone 3G with 2.2 software upgrade to my HandsFree Link system. I go through the setup procedure, the car sees the phone, HandsFree Link shows up on my iPhone Bluetooth system and after typing in my pass code on the phone, the car asks me to name the phone. When I press the button and say the name of the phone, there's a pause and a beep and then nothing. The phone still says that it is paired but, if I try to make a call, the car says that there are no paired devices. Any ideas?

Strangely, I just paired my 3G I-Phone today and had a similar problem. Try this...put the phone in discovery mode first (i.e. looking for devices), then go to the "pair" function in the HFL. Set your 4 digit code. HandsFreeLink will appear on the I-Phone, tap it, and it should prompt for the 4-digit passcode. It worked for me today, and now it works flawlessly.

I HAVE tried putting the phone in discovery mode first and then going thru the pairing sequence with HFL. My problem is that, after enter the 4 digit code, I'm asked to name the phone. I then press the talk button, say the name and the HFL system sits for about 5 seconds and then beeps. In other words, it never registers my phone name and, thus, never finishes the pairing process.

I've had this problem intermittently as well, and with several different phones. I believe you can interpret this behavior as the HFL system "crashing" while trying to process the pairing. It may not like the name you are giving it, or it may not like the phone itself. In any case, resetting the HFL, rebooting the phone, and clearing any pairing info from the phone, then starting over will probably do the trick. Keep in mind that when you reset the HFL, it will clear all memory (pairings, address book) and you'll have to reenter it all. The HFL is a finicky system.
I don't recall the HFL reset procedure but you can find it somewhere in this forum I'm sure.

I haven't had any issues with my iPhone 3G but one day my HFL system reset itself (lost all my contacts, pairing, etc.). Was very random but just had to repair and all was well. I haven't had any issues with 2.0, 2.1, and now 2.2 on both the iPhone 3G and 1st Gen iPhone.
Like redman042 said, I would probably just reset your HFL system. It's a pain since you lose all your HFL contacts but might be your only option.

Try turning off bluetooth on the phone for a few minutes then turning it back on. This worked for me recently when I screwed up the connection by accident.

I had this problem too - I cleared the Acura system and rebooted the phone and it would work.
I still have many other problems (no incoming call answering or transfers) but the phone is at least paired!
