Installing NAV
Installing NAV
I am in Mexico and am about to place the order for my TL, problem is that in Mexico the NAV is not offered as an option. Since the dash without NAV is quite ugly, I would like to install it in the US after I get the car (no power on earth could convince my dealer in Mexico to do it).
Has anyone done this? Suggestions?

I have. See this thread for the parts I used.

Plus if you search for non-NAVI to NAVI conversions there are a few other's who have done it too. It's expensive, but it can be done and it's not extraordinarily difficult if you plan it out.
Also wouldn't it be easier to by a US car and import it to Mexico?

Easier, yes, but I would have to haul the car to the US if I ever need warranty repairs since Acura Mexico won't honor it. Besides, it would be more expensive for the duties to be payed...
Thank you for your information.

Yes the navi install can be expensive. I have all my parts($2000.00) includes 3 harnesses. I found a guy that makes the harness for $700.00 as long as you supply the plugs. He claims the harness is plug and play which will save time and maybe money if you are having an installer do your work. If you have the electrical troubleshooting manual published by helm, that will help !! Lots of pictures and diagrams. I should haved bought a TL with navi cause it turned out to be alot of work finding my parts and finding someone to install the unit. I am still waiting for my installer to commit to work on my car. PM me if you want the guys email that makes the harness. good luck!

But $700 is too much for homemade harnesses. I bought all 3 from a deal and paid full retail and with tax it was $1150. From discount OEM dealers like Del Ray Acura it is significantly cheaper...closer to $700.
The only benefit other than a SLIGHT decrease in cost is the installation. Homemade harnesses make the install a bit easier. In my conversion I used OEM harnesses and had to remove the ENTIRE dash from a-pillar to a-piller to get it in.
