Installed sub and amp....now very disappointed!

I recently installed a JL 12W3 with a JL 250/1 Slash Series amp. I used the JL speaker to RCA conversion wires on the subwoofer connection. I twisted both wires together on the converters then connected that to each wire. When I turned the radio on I was sadly dissappointed on how weak the subwoofer was. I know the 250/1 won't make ears bleed but the setup now is better but not by much than stock. Any suggestions on how to improve my system?

If I'm not mistaken, you're underpowering the sub by half it's RMS. It seems the amp is 250 watts RMS and the sub has 500 watts RMS.

What kind of enclosure do you have? If you currently have a sealed box you could get some additional output by switching to a ported setup.

You might want to check that you did this connection correctly.

Check the gains on the amplifier as well.

OK today I rewired the rca converters. I wired the positives together and the negatives together and that fixed the issue. I guess I misunderstood the person that told me to twist the wires together. Thanks for the suggestions.

FWIW, the W3 and W3v2 have RMS ratings of 250 watts, the v3 is 300 watts. Most 250/1s I have seen do around 330, you should be fine on power.

Ok, he loses 3db in output he wouldn't be able to hear in the first place...

Enclosure is probably the culprit here.

Nah the enclosure is fine. Problem was definately in my wiring. After I rewired the RCA converters the subwoofer pounds now. Thanks for all of the input though.

Are you using the wires from the rear speakers or the wires to the sub. If you wire the converter using the wires that go to the sub you will get a cleaner and more amplified signal to the amp.
