Installed new trunk navigation player but...

My original trunk nav unit was destroyed in an accident so I purchased a used one. Installed the wiring harness and powered it up. The screen gave me a "check disk" error message before I even installed the DVD map. I then opened the dvd drive door, inserted the DVD, closed the dvd drive door and waited. The "check disk" error message never went away. Tried re-inserting the disk several times and the error message never left the screen. I have the security code but never had the option to input this code. Am I doing something wrong or do you think the used nav player is defective. I would appreciate feedback from anyone that has experience with this.
Thanks,
Jeff

If the purchased unit is defective, you may be able to send it to Alpine. Since it's a second hand unit, not sure if they will, but also not sure how they would know the difference. Most folks here with navi problems have had Alpine fix their unit for $150.

try taking the cd out. unplugging the car from the battery.
then turn on the car. and turn on the navi, then im guessing a security code prompt will come up as well as a navi cd prompt. then, put in the cd and see if that will work.
